Products & services

Kingfisher’s product range includes home-improvement and DIY products sold under its own-exclusive brands. GoodHome covers kitchens, bathrooms, storage and decoration, with examples including fitted kitchens, taps, sinks, heaters, paint and solid-wood flooring. Other named brands include Erbauer power tools, Magnusson hand tools and Cooke & Lewis interior solutions.[4] Erbauer’s EXT range uses a shared battery system across compatible tools; the EXT 18V Elitecell battery is specified as a 4.0Ah lithium-ion battery with Keep Cool temperature-management technology.[8]

The company also offers project services including kitchen and bathroom design, rental, installation and project finance.[9] In the year ended 31 January 2026, own-exclusive-brand sales were £5.5 billion, equivalent to 43% of Group sales.[10] [9]

Geographic presence

Kingfisher plc’s retail operations span the UK, Ireland, France, Poland, Portugal, Spain and Turkey. As of 31 January 2026, it reported 1,836 stores: 1,296 in the UK and Ireland, 256 in France, 108 in Poland, 3 in Portugal, 28 in Spain and 145 in Turkey. The Turkey stores are operated through Koçtaş, a 50%-owned joint venture.[3][11]

For the financial year ended 31 January 2026, reported sales of £12,945 million were distributed across UK & Ireland (£6,726 million; approximately 52.0%), France (£3,866 million; 29.9%), Poland (£1,843 million; 14.2%) and Other International (£510 million; 3.9%). Other International includes Turkey; the reported figures do not provide a separate Turkey sales amount.[3][12] The company reports a workforce of more than 70,000 colleagues, but the cited materials do not give a geographic employee breakdown. Its registered office is at 1 Paddington Square, London W2 1GG.[3][2] [3]

Business segments

For FY 2025/26, ended 31 January 2026, Kingfisher reports divisional sales across UK & Ireland (£6,726m; approximately 52.0% of group sales), France (£3,866m; 29.9%), and Poland (£1,843m; 14.2%). UK & Ireland comprises B&Q and trade-focused Screwfix; France comprises Castorama and Brico Dépôt; Poland is reported as Castorama Poland. The percentage estimates use group sales of £12,945m as the denominator.[3][12]

Other International includes Iberia, Romania, Screwfix France & Other, and the Koçtaş Turkey joint venture. Its approximate FY 2025/26 sales contribution was £510m, or 3.9% of group sales, calculated as the residual after subtracting the three divisional sales figures from group sales; Romania was divested on 2 May 2025. These geographic divisions are the reported divisional sales view; the company also discusses performance by retail banner, which is a complementary brand-level view rather than a separate set of divisional totals.[3][12] [13]

Company history

B&Q was founded in Southampton in 1969 by Richard Block and David Quayle. Kingfisher’s corporate roots date to 1982, when Paternoster acquired F.W. Woolworth, bringing its B&Q home-improvement business into the group. A major expansion followed in 1998, when B&Q merged with Castorama, which also owned Brico Dépôt; Kingfisher acquired Screwfix in 1999 and moved to consolidate its ownership of Castorama in 2002.[20]

In 2016, Kingfisher launched its “ONE Kingfisher” plan to create a more unified business. In 2018 it announced plans to exit Russia, Spain and Portugal as part of a focus on markets where it could establish a leading position; the sale of its Castorama Russia business was completed in 2020. B&Q launched an online marketplace in 2022.[24] [27]
