## Company history

B&Q was founded in Southampton in 1969 by Richard Block and David Quayle. Kingfisher’s corporate roots date to 1982, when Paternoster acquired F.W. Woolworth, bringing its B&Q home-improvement business into the group. A major expansion followed in 1998, when B&Q merged with Castorama, which also owned Brico Dépôt; Kingfisher acquired Screwfix in 1999 and moved to consolidate its ownership of Castorama in 2002.
