Products & services
ZIM offers container shipping and related transport services for dry, refrigerated, specialized, hazardous, and vehicle cargo. Its dry-cargo service carries general goods in dry-van containers; reefer services transport temperature-sensitive goods such as perishables, pharmaceuticals, and electronics, with monitoring and cold-chain controls. ZIMonitor, its premium reefer-monitoring service, tracks GPS location, temperature, humidity, and door openings, with customer alerts and shipment-status access through myZIM.[7][8][9][10] [7][8][9][10]
Geographic presence
ZIM’s 2025 network comprised 56 weekly services calling at more than 300 ports and connecting cargo flows to and from over 90 countries. Its carried-TEU mix was 43.0% Transpacific, 13.5% Atlantic, 7.9% Cross-Suez, 21.2% Intra-Asia and 14.4% Latin America. Its geographic coverage includes Asia–North America and Caribbean routes, Atlantic and Mediterranean services, intra-Asian and Asia–Africa connections, and Latin American and South America-linked services.[1][11][12][13][14][15]
For 2025, containerized-cargo freight revenue by trade zone was $2,921.0 million in Pacific, $563.9 million in Cross-Suez, $665.0 million in Atlantic-Europe, $747.1 million in Intra-Asia and $784.0 million in Latin America, totaling $5,681.0 million. These amounts represent approximately 51.4%, 9.9%, 11.7%, 13.1% and 13.8% of that total, respectively; percentages are calculated from the reported figures.[16] ZIM’s principal place of business is in Haifa, Israel, and it serves customers through local agencies internationally.[17][2]
The company reports 23 full-time sales professionals at its Haifa headquarters and approximately 860 sales personnel at agency locations worldwide, including Israel; this figure includes employees and third-party contractors and is not a total workforce breakdown.[18] ZIM’s official site provides country-level contact listings and describes a network of more than 170 offices in over 100 countries.[19][20] [1][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][2][18][19][20]
Business segments
ZIM reports one operating segment: its global container-shipping business, managed as an integrated liner network. Its geographic trade zones are a separate revenue breakdown, not separately reported operating segments. The following approximate shares are based on freight revenue from containerized cargo for the six months ended June 30, 2026—not total company revenue.[21][22]
The Pacific zone serves transpacific routes between Asia and North America and contributed about 54% of containerized-cargo freight revenue.[12][23][22] Cross-Suez focuses on Asia–Europe routes, including Mediterranean trades, and contributed about 11%.[24][25][22] Atlantic (called Atlantic-Europe in the annual report) covers North American, Caribbean, Mediterranean and intra-European trades, contributing about 12%.[13][26][22]
Intra-Asia serves regional Asian trades, including links with the Indian subcontinent, Africa and Australia, and contributed about 13%.[14][27][22] Latin America covers intra-American trades and links between South America and Asia or the Western Mediterranean, contributing about 10%.[15][28][22] [21][12][23][24][25][13][26][14][27][15][28][22][22][22][22][22][22]
Company history
ZIM Integrated Shipping Services was established in 1945 by the Jewish Agency, Histadrut Labor Federation and Israel Maritime League. It acquired its first ship, *Kedmah*, in 1947, and expanded its fleet and international shipping lines through the 1950s and 1960s.[29]
Israel Corporation acquired approximately half of ZIM in 1969. After launching its first cargo shipping service in 1972, the company continued to develop its shipping operations; in 2004, Israel Corporation acquired the State of Israel’s remaining interest, completing ZIM’s privatization.[29][30]
ZIM completed a debt restructuring in July 2014. In January 2021, its shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ZIM, following its initial public offering.[31][32] [29][30][31][32][31]
