ZILLOW GROUP, INC.

Updated

Overview

Zillow Group, Inc. is a U.S.-focused real-estate technology company whose digital platform helps people search for homes and navigate renting, buying, selling, and financing. Its offerings include Zillow’s home listings and Zestimate valuation tool, rental services, mortgage products, and software and services for real-estate professionals.[1][2]

The company’s stated aim is to reimagine residential real estate and make home a reality for more people, with a focus on supporting consumers across the housing journey. Zillow was co-founded in 2005, and Zillow.com launched in 2006. Its business is centered on the United States rather than a broad international footprint.[3]

For scale, Zillow reported $2.583 billion in revenue for fiscal 2025. Its investor overview listed 7,200 employees alongside second-quarter 2026 metrics; that figure is a Q2 indicator, and the company later announced an approximately 7% headcount reduction in August 2026.[1] [1]

Products & services

Zillow’s consumer products include its home-search website and app, which provide access to home listings and property information, and Zestimate, an automated estimate of a home’s market value. Buyers can use BuyAbility to estimate an affordable price range, search for homes, connect with agents, arrange tours and explore financing. Zillow Showcase offers enhanced listing displays with rich media, interactive floor plans, 3D tours, virtual staging and SkyTour; ShowingTime supports tour scheduling.[1]

For real estate professionals, Zillow offers Zillow Preferred, an invite-only, pay-when-closed program for agent teams, and Zillow Pro, an integrated agent suite. Follow Up Boss provides CRM and business-management tools, including AI-supported message suggestions, client insights, call summaries and lead routing. Other professional products include Zillow Workspace, dotloop, ShowingTime and Zillow Showcase.[9]

Zillow Rental Manager supports rental listings and leasing workflows; renters can search, tour, apply, sign leases and pay rent through participating services. Zillow’s rental products also include cost-transparency features, rent reporting through a partnership with Esusu and AI Assist conversational leasing support. Zillow Home Loans offers purchase and refinance financing, including conventional conforming, government-guaranteed and jumbo loans, with digital pre-approval and an online borrower application. Zillow Closing provides title, closing and escrow services.[11]

For fiscal 2025, Residential revenue was $1.704 billion (66% of total revenue), Mortgages $199 million (8%), Rentals $630 million (24%), and Other $50 million (2%). Residential and Mortgages together made up the For Sale category, with $1.903 billion in revenue (74% of total). These are reported revenue categories rather than individual product-level shares.[16] [1]

Geographic presence

Zillow Group’s operations are primarily focused on the U.S. residential real estate market, and the company reports no significant exposure to foreign operations. It reports a single operating and reportable segment and does not disclose revenue by country or region.[17]

The company lists office properties in Seattle, Washington (corporate headquarters), Irvine, California, New York, New York, and San Francisco, California. The filing does not provide an employee distribution by office or geography.[20] [17]

Business segments

Zillow Group reports one operating and reportable segment; it does not report Residential, Mortgages, or Rentals as separate reportable segments. Instead, it discloses these and Other as revenue categories. In FY2025, Residential accounted for approximately 66% of revenue and includes agent and software offerings, New Construction marketplace services, and StreetEasy for-sale products. Mortgages contributed about 8%, primarily from Zillow Home Loans and mortgage-professional marketing. Together, Zillow classifies Residential and Mortgages as For Sale revenue, about 74% of the FY2025 total.[19]

Rentals contributed approximately 24% of FY2025 revenue, reflecting rental advertising and tools for rental professionals, landlords, and other market participants. Other revenue was approximately 2%, primarily from graphical display advertising. The percentages are approximate shares of total FY2025 revenue, not segment contributions.[24] [19]

Company history

Zillow was founded in 2004 by Rich Barton and Lloyd Frink; its real-estate website launched in February 2006, initially offering home-value estimates and property information. In 2008, it expanded into home financing with a mortgage marketplace.[26]

The company went public in 2011. It broadened its services through acquisitions including mortgage-technology company Mortech and rental platform HotPads in 2012, New York listings site StreetEasy in 2013, and transaction-management company dotloop in 2015. Zillow announced its acquisition of Trulia in 2014; the deal closed in 2015, and the company adopted the Zillow Group name.[27]

Spencer Rascoff became CEO in 2010, and co-founder Rich Barton returned to the role in 2019. Zillow launched its home-buying operation, Zillow Offers, in 2017 and announced its wind-down in 2021. That year it also completed its acquisition of home-touring technology company ShowingTime. In 2024, longtime chief operating officer Jeremy Wacksman succeeded Barton as CEO.[27] [26]
