YPF Sociedad Anónima is an Argentina-based integrated energy company focused on oil and gas. Its operations span hydrocarbon exploration and production, transportation, refining and marketing, natural gas, power generation, and newer energy activities. Its products include crude oil, natural gas, fuels, LPG, lubricants, petrochemicals and fertilizers.[1]

Argentina is YPF’s principal market. Its group also has activities in neighboring South American countries, including gas commercialization and transport interests in Chile and exploration activity in Bolivia. YPF describes its challenge as “developing the energy that comes,” linking its purpose to Argentina’s energy future.[2]

For the year ended December 31, 2025, YPF reported revenue of US$18.448 billion and 22,499 employees.[6][4] [1]

Products & services

YPF sells gasoline and diesel fuels, including INFINIA TURBOCLEAN premium gasoline, Súper gasoline and INFINIA Diesel, which the company identifies as Grade 3, ultra-low-sulfur diesel. Its other reported product categories include natural gas, jet fuel, LPG, fuel oil, crude oil, virgin naphtha, petroleum coke, LNG regasification, lubricants and by-products, petrochemicals, asphalt, fertilizer and crop-protection products, and grains, flours and oils.[7][3] YPF also sells automotive and industrial lubricants, and its YPF BOXES service centers provide vehicle services such as oil changes and inspections; the company also operates an electric-vehicle charging network.[8]

Its chemical products include solvents and olefins; examples in YPF’s technical materials include Solvente C (commercial hexane), methanol made from natural gas, a propane-propylene mix and 1-butene used as a polyethylene comonomer. YPF Agro offers agricultural inputs and services, including fuels, lubricants, crop-protection and crop-nutrition products, seeds, biologicals and agronomic services; Y-Terra is a biological seed treatment based on *Trichoderma harzianum*.[11]

Percentages are calculated from the reported US$18.284 billion total.[3] [3]

Geographic presence

YPF’s 2025 reporting describes its oil-and-gas producing activities in Argentina. The geographic revenue table reports US$7,575 million for Argentina and no amount for other foreign locations; this indicates all revenue in that table was attributed to Argentina, but is not a breakdown of the company’s total consolidated revenue by country.[15]

Its listed operating areas include Salta, Neuquén, Mendoza, La Pampa, Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego, as well as the Argentine Continental Shelf.[16] YPF also identifies a crude-oil pipeline route connecting La Amarga Chica and Puesto Hernández with the Luján de Cuyo refinery, with exports to Chile among the route’s purposes.[17] The principal executive office is in Buenos Aires, Argentina.[18] [15]

Business segments

YPF’s 2025 segment reporting lists four operating segments—Upstream, Midstream and Downstream, LNG and Integrated Gas, and New Energies—plus Central Administration and Others. Approximate shares below are calculated from each line’s revenue as a percentage of total reported revenue of $18,448 million.[19]

For additional context, reported operating profit/(loss) was $1,167 million for Midstream and Downstream, $432 million for New Energies, $410 million for Upstream, $(8) million for LNG and Integrated Gas, and $(336) million for Central Administration and Others.[19] [19]

Company history

Founded on 3 June 1922, YPF began as Argentina’s state oil company. In 1989, economic reforms initiated its restructuring and the sale of interests in some producing concessions; a 1992 privatization law was followed by a 1993 share offering that reduced the government’s ownership from 100% to about 20%.[22]

Repsol acquired control of YPF in 1999, while the Petersen Group took minority stakes in 2008 and 2011. In 2011, YPF announced a major unconventional hydrocarbon discovery in the Loma La Lata/Vaca Muerta area. The following year, Argentina enacted legislation providing for the expropriation of 51% of YPF’s capital held by Repsol and related entities; in 2014, Argentina and Repsol reached a compensation settlement.[26] [23]
