Overview
Xylem Inc. is a global water-technology company that supplies equipment, technologies and services for moving, treating, measuring and managing water. Its businesses span water and wastewater infrastructure, pumps and systems for buildings and industry, smart metering and analytics, and water-related services. Customers include utilities, industrial operators, farms and commercial and residential users. Xylem states that its purpose is to help employees, customers and communities build a more water-secure world.[1][2][3]
Xylem has production facilities in North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. It reported approximately 22,000 employees worldwide and $9.0 billion in revenue for 2025. The company became independent through a spin-off from ITT in 2011.[4][5][6][7] [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
Products & services
Xylem’s water-infrastructure products include pumps, controls and systems for moving water, wastewater and stormwater, as well as filtration, separation and disinfection equipment. Flygt supplies submersible wastewater pumps and mixers; Godwin supplies portable dewatering pumps; and Wedeco supplies ultraviolet-disinfection and ozone-treatment systems. As a model-specific example, the Godwin CD150M Dri-Prime pump is rated for flows up to 520 cubic meters per hour and can handle solids up to 75 millimeters. In Xylem’s 2024 Water Infrastructure revenue, transport products accounted for 59% and treatment products for 41%.[8][9][10][11][12][13]
For buildings, industry and residential water systems, Xylem offers pumps, valves, heat exchangers, controls and dispensing equipment under brands including Bell & Gossett, Goulds Water Technology, Lowara, Flojet and Jabsco. Its Lowara range includes e-SV vertical multistage pumps, while Goulds Water Technology offers centrifugal and submersible pumps, controllers and variable-frequency drives. Building Solutions represented 56% of 2024 Applied Water revenue; Industrial Water represented 44%.[13][14][15]
Xylem’s measurement portfolio combines Sensus utility meters and two-way FlexNet communications with analytical instruments, monitoring software and data services. YSI and WTW instruments measure water-quality and other environmental parameters, while Xylem Vue integrates information from utility sensors, control systems and business systems for analysis. Smart Metering and Other generated 81% of 2024 Measurement and Control Solutions revenue, versus 19% from Analytics.[16][17][18][13]
Its service offerings include equipment rental and temporary pumping, mobile and outsourced water treatment, operations and maintenance, emergency response, leak detection, asset-condition assessment and water-reuse solutions. Xylem also provides parts, repair and field support for treatment equipment. Geographic presence
Xylem is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has approximately 400 locations in more than 50 countries. Its distribution networks serve customers in approximately 150 countries; that customer reach does not imply a physical presence in every country. Significant facilities include manufacturing sites in Sweden and China, a manufacturing and research site in India, and sales and service offices in France and Germany.[20][21][22][23]
In 2025, revenue from customer contracts was $4.99 billion in the United States (about 57% of the $8.72 billion total), $1.79 billion in Western Europe (21%), $1.20 billion in emerging markets (14%) and $740 million in other geographies (8%). These figures exclude lease revenue. Xylem defines emerging markets as Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific excluding Japan, Australia and New Zealand, which are classified as “Other.” [23][24] Of approximately 22,000 employees at year-end 2025, about 9,000 were in the United States, 7,000 in Western Europe, 5,000 in emerging markets and 1,000 in other geographies.[5] [20][21][22][25][25][25][25][25][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][26][24][5][23]
Business segments
Xylem reports four business segments. **Water Infrastructure** supplies equipment for transporting and treating water, wastewater and stormwater, including pumps, controls, filtration and disinfection systems. It generated about 29% of 2025 revenue. **Applied Water** supplies pumps, valves, heat exchangers, controls and dispensing equipment for residential, commercial and industrial applications; it contributed about 20%.[27][1][28]
**Measurement and Control Solutions** provides smart meters, communications and analytics, control technologies, and water-testing instruments and services. It accounted for about 23% of revenue. **Water Solutions and Services** provides tailored water-treatment systems and lifecycle services, including outsourced water operations, recycling and reuse, dewatering, and emergency response; it contributed about 27%. Company history
Xylem was formed as an independent company when ITT spun off its water businesses on October 31, 2011. Its origins reach further back through brands such as Goulds Water Technology, whose pump-making roots date to 1848, and Flygt, whose history began with a Swedish foundry established in 1901. Patrick Decker became Xylem’s chief executive in 2014.[33][15][34][35]
Xylem expanded into connected water infrastructure through its 2016 acquisition of Sensus, which added smart metering and communications technology. In 2023, it acquired Evoqua, broadening its water-treatment capabilities. Matthew Pine succeeded Decker as chief executive on January 1, 2024.[36][37][38] [39][33][15][34][35][36][37][38]
