Business segments
Wingstop Inc. reports one operating and reportable segment, identified as “restaurants.” Its activities include selling food and beverages at company-owned restaurants and earning royalties, franchise fees, and advertising-fund contributions from franchised restaurants. The company manages these activities on a consolidated basis, citing similarities in customers, products, and sales processes across its restaurants.[28][24]
The restaurants segment accounts for 100% of the company’s consolidated revenue because it is the sole reportable segment. Revenue lines such as company-owned restaurant sales, franchise royalties and fees, and advertising fees are components of this segment, not separately reported segments.[28][24] [28][24]
Company history
Wingstop was founded by Antonio Swad and Bernadette Fiaschetti, and its first restaurant opened in Garland, Texas, in 1994. The company began franchising in 1997.[29][1] In 2003, Swad sold the business to Wingstop Holdings, formed by Hartz Restaurants International and Gemini Investors.[30]
Wingstop opened its first international restaurant in Mexico City in 2009, and Roark Capital acquired the company in 2010.[31][32] The company went public in June 2015.[33] In 2022, Michael Skipworth succeeded Charlie Morrison as CEO, and Wingstop launched a chicken sandwich nationwide.[34][35] In November 2025, it opened its 3,000th restaurant.[25] [1][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][25]
