Company history
WESCO traces its origins to the distribution arm of Westinghouse Electric in 1922 and became an independent company in 1994. Between 1996 and 1999 it completed 18 acquisitions, then went public on May 12, 1999, at $18 per share.[19]
The company continued to expand through acquisitions, including Carlton-Bates in 2005 and Communications Supply Corporation in 2006. In 2009, John J. Engel was named president and CEO, succeeding Roy W. Haley.[20][21][22]
In 2012 WESCO completed its acquisition of EECOL Electric Corporation, extending its footprint in Canada and South America. A major subsequent milestone was the 2020 merger with Anixter, completed on June 22, when Anixter became a wholly owned subsidiary.[23][24]
WESCO later acquired Rahi Systems in 2022 and Ascent in 2024, adding data-center solutions and data-center facility-management capabilities, respectively.[25][26] [19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26]
