Overview

WesBanco, Inc. is a U.S. financial-services company and bank holding company, with community banking and trust and investment services as its core business segments. Its services include retail and corporate banking, trust and investment management, mortgage banking, insurance and brokerage.[1][2]

Headquartered in Wheeling, West Virginia, WesBanco has a regional U.S. footprint, with branches across West Virginia, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and Maryland, as well as loan-production offices in additional markets.[2][3] The company’s stated mission is “to build lasting prosperity through genuine relationships and tailored solutions.” [4] For the year ended December 31, 2025, WesBanco reported approximately $27.7 billion in assets and 2,969 full-time-equivalent employees; net interest income was $814.3 million and non-interest income was $166.8 million.[5] [1]

Products & services

WesBanco’s community banking products include commercial and personal demand and time deposit accounts, commercial and industrial loans, commercial and residential real estate loans, home-equity loans, and consumer installment loans. It also offers insurance and securities brokerage services.[8][9]

Its trust, investment and wealth services include trust accounts and the WesMark mutual funds: Large Company, Balanced, Small Company, Government Bond, West Virginia Municipal Bond and Tactical Opportunity. Digital services include online and mobile bill payment, transfers, account history and statements, alerts, budgeting, person-to-person payments, mobile check deposit, debit-card controls and credit-score access. Business services include account reconciliation, ACH payments and collections, Positive Pay, wire transfers, QuickBooks integration, invoicing, lockbox, foreign exchange and merchant processing.[10]

WesBanco reports revenue across fee categories such as trust fees, deposit service charges, securities brokerage, digital banking, payment processing and mortgage banking, but the cited disclosures do not provide individual products’ shares of company performance.[8] [8]

Geographic presence

As of the second quarter of 2026, WesBanco reported 216 branches and 233 ATMs across West Virginia, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Florida. Its headquarters are in Wheeling, West Virginia.[15][5]

The company describes its commercial real estate lending as concentrated mainly in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland, northern Virginia, southern Michigan and Tennessee; it does not provide state-level lending shares in the cited disclosure.[16] WesBanco reports that all revenue is from domestic operations, but the cited filing does not break revenue down by state or region.[17] [15]

Business segments

WesBanco reports two operating segments: Community Banking and Trust and Investment Services. Community Banking encompasses deposit-taking and commercial, mortgage, and installment lending, along with certain insurance and securities-brokerage offerings. Trust and Investment Services provides trust services and alternative investment products, including mutual funds, and serves as investment adviser to the WesMark funds. Corporate Other is a reconciliation category, not a reportable segment.[17]

For 2025, Community Banking generated $892.2 million in revenue, approximately 98.7% of consolidated revenue, and $242.6 million in segment profit. Trust and Investment Services generated $31.6 million in revenue, approximately 3.5% of consolidated revenue, and $8.9 million in segment profit. Corporate Other contributed negative $20.0 million in revenue and a $28.3 million loss, bringing consolidated revenue to $903.8 million and net income to $223.1 million; consequently, Community Banking’s profit contribution exceeded 100% of consolidated net income.[18]

In the six months ended June 30, 2026, Community Banking accounted for approximately 98.4% of consolidated revenue and Trust and Investment Services approximately 3.2%; Corporate Other was negative 1.6%. These interim figures indicate a similar revenue mix to 2025. The company does not present comparable balance-sheet assets for both reportable segments: trust assets are held in fiduciary or agency capacities and excluded from consolidated assets.[19][20] [17]

Company history

WesBanco traces its origins to German Bank, chartered in Wheeling, West Virginia, on January 20, 1870. Dollar Savings Bank was organized in Wheeling in 1887, and the two banking lineages later combined; their successor, Wheeling Dollar Savings & Trust, became a WesBanco subsidiary when the holding-company structure was established in 1976. WesBanco, Inc. had been incorporated in 1968.[21]

From the 1990s onward, a series of bank acquisitions expanded WesBanco’s regional footprint. Notable transactions included Western Ohio Financial in 2004 and Oak Hill Financial in 2007, followed by Your Community Bankshares in 2016, Farmers Capital Bank Corporation in 2018, and Old Line Bancshares in 2019.[22]

In 2023, Jeffrey H. Jackson succeeded Todd F. Clossin as president and chief executive officer. WesBanco completed its acquisition of Premier Financial Corp. on February 28, 2025, adding another regional banking franchise.[27][28]
