Verisign is an internet-infrastructure company focused on domain-name registry services. It operates the registries for .com and .net, provides the systems that allow registrars to register those domains, and helps direct internet traffic through DNS resolution services. It also serves as the Root Zone Maintainer and operates two of the internet’s 13 root servers. Its stated focus is the security, stability, and resiliency of the DNS and the internet.[1][2][3]

Products & services
Verisign’s principal products are registry services for the .com and .net top-level domains. Its Shared Registration System enables registrars to add, modify, transfer, renew and delete domain names, while its authoritative Domain Name System (DNS) infrastructure resolves those names for internet users. Registrations generally run from one to 10 years; registrars set the prices paid by their customers. Substantially all of Verisign’s revenue comes from .com and .net operations, but it does not report a separate revenue percentage for each domain.[8][9][10][11] [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]
Geographic presence
VeriSign’s 2025 revenue was $1,093.1 million from the United States (66.0% of total), $279.4 million from Europe, the Middle East and Africa (16.9%), $184.6 million from Asia-Pacific (11.1%), and $99.5 million from other regions (6.0%).[18] Asia-Pacific includes Australia, China, Japan and Singapore; “other” includes Canada and Latin American countries.[19] These figures reflect where registrars are domiciled, not necessarily where domain-name registrants are located.[20]
The company’s principal executive offices are in Reston, Virginia.[4] It owns facilities in Reston and data centers in New Castle, Delaware, and Dulles, Virginia, while leasing smaller office and data-center sites worldwide.[21] Its network includes more than 200 points of presence globally, and it has marketing and account-management employees in several countries.[5][22] [18][18][18][18][19][20][4][21][5][22]
Business segments
Verisign reports **one operating and reportable segment**, encompassing all of its business operations; it does not report .com, .net or other services as separate segments. That single segment therefore accounts for 100% of reported revenue.[23] Its principal activities are operating the .com and .net domain registries, including registration systems and authoritative DNS resolution. It also operates other domain registries and provides technical back-end services for .edu. Substantially all revenue comes from .com and .net, but Verisign does not disclose their individual revenue shares.[24][25][11]
As a separate geographic breakdown—not a set of operating segments—2025 revenue was approximately 66.0% United States, 16.9% Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 11.1% Asia-Pacific, and 6.0% other regions. Company history
Verisign was founded in 1995 by Jim Bidzos to provide public-key infrastructure services to partners using RSA Data Security technology. Its business expanded substantially in 2000 when it acquired Network Solutions, adding domain-name registration and registry operations.[28][29]
Verisign subsequently narrowed its business around domain registry and internet infrastructure operations. It sold Network Solutions’ domain-name registrar business in 2003 while retaining its registry operations, then sold its Authentication Services business to Symantec in 2010. In 2018, it sold customer contracts associated primarily with DDoS protection and managed DNS services to Neustar.[30][31][32] [32][28][29][30][31]
