Company profile

VERACYTE, INC.

Updated

Overview

Veracyte, Inc. is a molecular diagnostics company focused on cancer care. Its tests analyze cancer biology to help guide diagnosis and treatment decisions. Key offerings include Afirma for thyroid cancer, Decipher tests for prostate and bladder cancer, and Prosigna for breast cancer. The company’s stated mission is to transform cancer care for patients around the world.[1][2]

Veracyte is headquartered in the United States, where it operates testing laboratories, and distributes Prosigna internationally across regions including Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Founded in 2008, it reported FY2025 revenue of $517.1 million and approximately 800 employees on its corporate overview; revenue for the first half of 2026 was $289.4 million.[1] [1]

Products & services

Veracyte’s commercial diagnostic tests include Afirma Genomic Sequencing Classifier (GSC), which analyzes RNA from fine-needle aspiration biopsies of thyroid nodules to help classify indeterminate nodules as benign or suspicious. Its genomic analysis can also provide mutation information for suspicious or malignant nodules. Afirma is supported by a cytopathology service for initial sample review and an online portal for test ordering and results.[6][7]

The Decipher tests use gene-expression analysis to inform cancer risk and treatment decisions. Decipher Prostate analyzes prostate tissue from biopsy or surgery to estimate metastatic risk in localized prostate cancer and progression risk in metastatic disease. Decipher Bladder analyzes resected bladder-tumor tissue to identify molecular subtypes, supporting treatment decisions in high-grade non-muscle-invasive and muscle-invasive disease.[8][9]

Other offerings include Prosigna, a 46-gene PAM50-based assay that estimates 10-year recurrence risk for postmenopausal patients with early-stage, hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer using tumor tissue; and TrueMRD, a tumor-informed, whole-genome blood test for monitoring circulating tumor DNA and recurrence in muscle-invasive bladder cancer. Prosigna is sold internationally as a test kit and is also offered as a U.S. laboratory-developed test.[10][11]

For FY2025, Decipher generated $310.7 million and Afirma generated $172.9 million, approximately 60.1% and 33.4% of Veracyte’s $517.1 million total revenue, respectively. The company reports that product revenue consists primarily of Prosigna assay kits and related diagnostic kits and services.[12][13] [6]

Geographic presence

Veracyte’s operating footprint includes South San Francisco and San Diego, California; Austin, Texas; and Haifa, Israel. It operates centralized U.S. CLIA-certified laboratories in South San Francisco and San Diego, with cytopathology operations in Austin. Its international IVD tests are distributed through local laboratories and hospitals, with international distribution focused on Prosigna; the company does not enumerate the countries served.[1][14] Its leased facilities include approximately 65,700 square feet in South San Francisco, 50,900 square feet in San Diego, and 10,400 square feet in Austin.[15]

Testing locations vary by product: Afirma genomic classifier testing is performed in South San Francisco, urology testing in San Diego, and most Afirma fine-needle aspiration samples are received and stored in Austin before transfer to California for processing.[16] The company’s filings do not provide geographic revenue shares or an employee breakdown by location; they note that most European sales are denominated in euros but do not state the associated revenue amount.[17] [1]

Business segments

Veracyte reports one operating segment, covering the development and commercialization of diagnostic tests and biopharmaceutical services; it does not report its cancer-focused businesses as separate segments.[17][19] Its diagnostic portfolio includes tests focused on prostate, thyroid, breast and bladder cancers, while its international in-vitro diagnostic distribution focuses on Prosigna.[1][20]

The company discloses revenue categories rather than revenue by named test or cancer business. In 2025, testing revenue was $493.2 million (about 95.4% of total revenue), product revenue was $14.3 million (2.8%), and biopharmaceutical and other revenue was $9.7 million (1.9%).[3] For the six months ended June 30, 2026, the respective amounts were $280.8 million (about 97.0%), $7.5 million (2.6%) and $1.1 million (0.4%).[21] These are revenue-category contributions, not separate segment shares; the company does not disclose testing revenue by individual assay.[22] [17]

Company history

Veracyte was incorporated in Delaware as Calderome, Inc. in August 2006 and operated as an incubator until early 2008, when it changed its name to Veracyte. Bonnie Anderson was identified as a co-founder.[23][24] In 2011, the company launched Afirma Thyroid FNA Analysis, its first commercial diagnostic solution.[25] Veracyte priced its initial public offering in October 2013 and began trading on Nasdaq under the symbol VCYT.[26]

The company expanded into lung diagnostics by acquiring Allegro Diagnostics in 2014 and launching the Percepta Bronchial Genomic Classifier in 2015.[27][28] In 2016 it launched the Envisia Genomic Classifier for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis diagnosis.[29] In 2019, Veracyte acquired an exclusive global diagnostics license to NanoString’s nCounter system, along with the Prosigna breast-cancer assay and the in-development LymphMark assay.[30][31]

In 2021, Marc Stapley succeeded co-founder Bonnie Anderson as chief executive officer, while Anderson became executive chair; that year Veracyte also acquired Decipher Biosciences and HalioDx, expanding its work in urologic cancers and immune-based diagnostics.[32] Veracyte completed its acquisition of C2i Genomics in February 2024, adding minimal residual disease capabilities.[35][36] In 2026, it launched TrueMRD for muscle-invasive bladder cancer and announced the acquisition of Convergent Genomics, adding the UroAmp urinary tumor-DNA platform.[37] [23]
