Products & services

VAT Group AG’s products are centered on high-precision vacuum valves, with product families that include transfer valves, gate valves, control valves, pendulum valves, angle/inline/cylinder valves, and all-metal valves. The portfolio also includes application-specific and high-specification valve designs. Angle/inline/cylinder valves are described as universal vacuum valves for pumping systems, process, or venting applications, and versions with VAT bellows are suitable for UHV service; the 25.1 High Vacuum Cylinder Valve is intended for harsh environments with corrosive and particle-carrying gases and is offered in angle, inline, and 3/2-way versions.[21][22] All-metal valves are designed for ultra-high and extreme-high vacuum applications, with no elastomers in process-contacting areas, repeatable hard-on-hard metal sealing, very high bakeout temperatures, and radiation resistance; the 57.1 XHV all-metal angle valve is specified for radiation up to 10^8 Gy, and VAT also notes demand for all-metal valves in nuclear fusion and UF6 valves used in nuclear enrichment.[23]+2 In control valves, VAT also markets products such as the 61.3 HV Butterfly Control Vacuum Valve, which is described as offering a fast 0.1-second motion controller for fine pressure control in CVD and ALD processes, and the company launched its first ALD valve in 2024 as part of a broader push toward higher component dynamics, repeatability, cleanliness, and temperature performance.[26]+2

Business segments

VAT Group AG is officially organized into two business segments: Valves and Global Service. Within this structure, the Valves segment contains two business units, Semiconductors and Advanced Industrials.[49][50]

Valves is the core segment and covers VAT’s full range of high-precision vacuum valves. It serves semiconductor manufacturing and high-end flat-panel displays through the Semiconductors business unit, and a broader set of industrial and research applications through Advanced Industrials, including scientific research and testing, nuclear fusion, uranium enrichment, and coatings for solar photovoltaic markets.[5][2] Global Service focuses on OEM and end-user support, providing genuine spare parts, valve maintenance and service, sub-fab installations, technical support and training, as well as upgrades and retrofits to improve equipment performance.[3][4]

By revenue mix, Valves is the dominant segment, contributing roughly four-fifths of group net sales, while Global Service contributes about one-fifth. Official disclosures show a split of about 80% Valves and 20% Global Service in 2023, and about 82% Valves and 18% Global Service in 2024.[51]+3 [49]+9

Company history

VAT Group AG was founded in Flawil, Switzerland, in 1965 by Siegfried Schertler, initially focused on supplying vacuum valves for science and other ultra-high-vacuum applications; the company moved to Haag a year later.[55]+2 In the late 1980s, VAT began working with semiconductor customers, a shift the company identifies as foundational to its later position.[57] A key product milestone followed in 1995 with the launch of the Series 65 pendulum valve control system, which VAT describes as its best seller, with more than 200,000 valves sold.[20]

In 2008, VAT acquired Romania-based Sysmec and structured it as an internal supplier.[58] Another major turning point came in early 2014, when the company was acquired by Partners Group and Capvis; VAT says this period helped it broaden its product offering and expand into adjacent markets.[59] VAT then completed its initial public offering on the SIX Swiss Exchange in 2016, and the private-equity owners had fully exited by January 2018.[59][60] [55]+6
