It serves private clients and small and medium-sized enterprises with banking and financial products, including lending and mortgages. Valiant operates through a local network in 15 Swiss cantons and offers digital services nationwide; its business is focused exclusively on Switzerland. The company’s stated aim is to make customers’ financial lives simpler.[1][2][3]
Founded in 1997, Valiant reported FY2025 operating income of CHF 549.5 million, total assets of CHF 37.9 billion, and 1,188 employees (1,052 full-time equivalents).[4][5] [1][2][5][5][5][5][3][4]
Products & services
Valiant offers private and business customers payment and savings accounts, lending, mortgages, investments and digital banking services. Named products include personal accounts and the Lila Set, business account bundles Business Set Basis and Business Set Plus, and fixed-rate and SARON mortgages. Digital services include its app and online banking, online account opening, TWINT, and instant and mobile payments. Investment offerings include the Fondsinvest Sparplan and execution-only investment accounts.[6][7][8][9][10]
In FY2025, Valiant reported CHF 549.5 million in operating income: net interest income accounted for approximately 72%, commission and services for 18%, trading for 7.5%, and other ordinary income for 2.5%. These figures describe income by banking activity, not revenue attributed to individual products. At year-end 2025, customer loans totalled CHF 30.4 billion, including CHF 29.1 billion in mortgages.[11][12] [6][11][12][7][8][9][10]
Geographic presence
Valiant operates exclusively in Switzerland, with digital services available nationwide. Its network comprises more than 80 locations across 15 cantons: Aargau, Basel-Landschaft, Basel-Stadt, Bern, Fribourg, Jura, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Schaffhausen, Solothurn, St. Gallen, Thurgau, Vaud, Zug and Zurich.[2][13] The bank does not actively seek clients domiciled abroad; foreign-domiciled client relationships are subject to Swiss-connection and onboarding restrictions.[14]
The 2025 report gives a regional breakdown of Valiant’s gross property portfolio, rather than geographic revenue: Bern/Solothurn 38%, Jura/Western Switzerland 15%, Aargau 15%, Lucerne/Zug 13%, rest of Switzerland 9%, Fribourg 6% and Basel 4%.[15][16] Valiant Bank AG lists its contact address as Bundesplatz 4, P.O. Box, 3001 Bern.[17] [2][13][14][15][16][17]
Business segments
Valiant reports four client segments. In FY2025, their respective shares of interest and commission income were: Affluent clients 51%; self-employed individuals and small companies 28%; medium-sized companies 19%; and private clients 2%. These percentages describe the reported interest and commission income measure, not shares of total group operating income. The latest segment split located is for FY2025; the H1 2026 results do not provide an updated segment breakdown.[18][19][20]
The segments reflect customer groups and service focus: affluent clients receive personalised service and advice; private clients are served through personalised advice and digital services; self-employed individuals and small companies receive support for business and personal financial needs; and medium-sized companies are offered advisory services and tailored solutions.[21][22][23][24][25] [18][19][21][22][23][24][25][20]
Company history
Valiant traces its historical roots to Ersparniskasse Murten, founded in 1824; Valiant Holding AG itself was formed in 1997 through the merger of Spar + Leihkasse Bern, Gewerbekasse Bern and BB Bank Belp.[26] From 2007 to 2010, it expanded into French-speaking Switzerland by opening a Fribourg branch and taking over regional banks and branches.[27] In 2012, four banking subsidiaries were consolidated under Valiant Bank AG.[28]
From 2015, Valiant introduced digital banking services, including a mobile-banking app and online account opening, and later launched Business Sets for small businesses and self-employed customers.[29][30][31] In 2019, Ewald Burgener succeeded Markus Gygax as CEO.[32] In 2020, Valiant raised its stake in digital real-estate company AgentSelly from 38% to nearly 70%.[33] Its plan to open 14 branches between 2020 and 2024 was completed by the end of 2023, ahead of schedule; in 2024, the company marked 200 years since the founding of its Murten predecessor.[34][35] [26][35][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34]
