Overview

Valeo is a global automotive technology supplier serving automakers and other mobility companies. Its products and systems include electrification and powertrain technologies, thermal management, lighting and visibility, driver-assistance systems, vehicle electronics and software, and in-cabin technologies. The company groups its activities into Valeo Brain, Valeo Power and Valeo Light, and states its purpose as making mobility safer, smarter and more sustainable.[1]

In FY2025, Valeo reported sales of €20.9 billion and 100,216 employees. Its operations spanned 29 countries, with 149 plants, 16 research centers, 43 development centers and 20 distribution platforms across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and Asia, the Middle East and Oceania. Valeo traces its origins to a workshop near Paris in 1923.[4][5] The latest full-year report available as of October 4, 2026, is the 2025 Universal Registration Document, filed on March 31, 2026.[6] [6]

Products & services

Valeo’s BRAIN products cover driver assistance, automated-driving sensors and systems, parking assistance, and in-cabin displays and interfaces. Valeo Smart Safety 360 combines a front camera and central computer with other sensors; its catalogue describes configurations with up to five 77-GHz radars and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The SCALA Gen 3 LiDAR is specified for a 200 m range on targets with 10% reflectivity, a 120° × 26° field of view and up to 12.5 million points per echo per second. Cabin products include central displays, digital clusters and haptic interfaces.[8]

POWER products include 48-V and high-voltage electrification, electric motors and drives, inverters, transmissions and e-axles, and thermal management for vehicles and batteries. The High Voltage 3-in-1 Electric Axle integrates a motor, inverter and reducer and is offered for 400-V and 800-V systems. The Smart Heat Pump DUAL combines refrigerant and coolant loops; Valeo states that, when fully optimized, it can help extend an electric vehicle’s winter range by up to 30%.[11][12]

LIGHT products include exterior and interior vehicle lighting, adaptive headlights, wiper systems and sensor-cleaning technologies. Its HD Monolithic PictureBeam adaptive-driving-beam headlights use 16K–25K pixelated lighting to direct illumination while reducing glare. Valeo Service supplies aftermarket replacement parts and accessories for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, as well as technical training and workshop support for repair professionals.[13]

For FY2025, reported divisional sales were POWER €10,512 million (50.3% of total divisional sales), LIGHT €5,405 million (25.9%) and BRAIN €4,957 million (23.7%); Other accounted for €29 million (0.1%), out of €20,903 million total. These percentages are calculated from the reported amounts and describe division-level sales, not individual product shares.[17] [17]

Geographic presence

Valeo’s 2025 footprint covered 29 countries, with more than 200 production sites and R&D centers. The company’s overview lists plants across Europe (59), Asia (57), North America (24), South America (3) and Africa (6); its site directory provides country, city and address details.[4][18]

For FY2025, original-equipment sales by destination were Europe €8,609 million (50%), North America €3,265 million (19%), Asia excluding China €2,761 million (15%), China €2,349 million (14%) and South America €317 million (2%). These figures describe original-equipment sales, not a full geographic breakdown of consolidated revenue; the cited reporting does not provide a country-level revenue split.[19]

Valeo’s FY2025 report lists 88,003 employees: 36,946 in Europe, 27,314 in Asia, 16,753 in America and 6,990 in Africa.[22] [19]

Business segments

Valeo reports three business segments: POWER, covering thermal management and powertrain technologies for all vehicle types, including electric motors and power electronics; BRAIN, focused on vehicle automation, the in-vehicle experience, and electrical/electronic architectures including software-defined vehicles; and LIGHT, covering exterior and interior lighting and signaling, wipers, and sensor-cleaning systems.[23]

In 2025, POWER generated €10,512 million, approximately 50.3% of group sales; BRAIN €4,957 million, approximately 23.7%; and LIGHT €5,405 million, approximately 25.9%. Other sales were €29 million, about 0.1%, out of €20,903 million total group sales.[26] Valeo also reports an original-equipment sales breakdown by destination: in 2025, Europe including Africa accounted for 50%, North America 19%, Asia excluding China 15%, China 14%, and South America 2% of OE sales.[20] [23]

Company history

Valeo traces its origins to 1923, when Société Anonyme Française du Ferodo (SAFF) was founded in Saint-Ouen, France. SAFF acquired a French license for Fichtel & Sachs in 1932 and absorbed brake-lining maker Flertex in 1934. In 1980, shareholders renamed the company Valeo.[5]

The company expanded from friction products into automotive electrical equipment during the 1950s and 1960s. In 1987, Noël Goutard became Chairman and CEO, a role he held through 2000. Valeo developed parking-assistance technology in 1991 and launched its Stop-Start system in 2004, advancing into driver-assistance and vehicle-electrification technologies.[5]

Valeo acquired Irish electronics company Connaught Electronics in 2007, expanding its camera and vehicle-maneuvering technologies. Its 2016–17 developments included acquiring Spheros and FTE Automotive and forming a high-voltage-powertrain joint venture with Siemens. In 2022, Valeo acquired Siemens’ stake in that venture, integrating it into its Powertrain Systems business; Christophe Périllat became CEO that year. In 2024, Valeo combined its Thermal Systems and Powertrain Systems businesses into a new Power division.[29] [5]
