UNITED THERAPEUTICS Corp

Updated

Overview

United Therapeutics Corporation is a biotechnology and pharmaceutical company focused primarily on treatments for pulmonary hypertension and related lung diseases. Its marketed portfolio includes Tyvaso, Remodulin and Orenitram for pulmonary conditions, Unituxin for high-risk neuroblastoma, and Adcirca; the company also works on technologies intended to increase the availability of transplantable organs.[1] Its stated public-benefit purpose is to advance therapies and technologies that address patients’ unmet medical needs and expand access to transplantable organs.[3]

Founded in 1996, the company reported 2025 revenue of approximately $3.18 billion.[4][5] At December 31, 2025, it had approximately 1,400 employees across 15 locations worldwide, with commercial activity extending beyond the United States through international distribution and sales.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

United Therapeutics’ pulmonary hypertension products include TYVASO, an inhaled treprostinil solution delivered four times daily through an ultrasonic nebulizer, and TYVASO DPI, a dry-powder treprostinil formulation delivered four times daily using single-use cartridges and a portable inhaler. Both are used for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH); TYVASO is also indicated for pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease.[8] REMODULIN is treprostinil injection for continuous subcutaneous or intravenous infusion to address PAH symptoms associated with exercise; its room-temperature stability, concentrated formulations and compatibility with company pump systems support ongoing infusion. ORENITRAM is an extended-release oral treprostinil tablet for PAH, indicated to delay disease progression and improve exercise capacity.[12]

Other marketed products include UNITUXIN (dinutuximab), a monoclonal antibody used with other medicines to treat high-risk pediatric neuroblastoma following response to first-line therapy, and ADCIRCA (tadalafil), a PDE-5 inhibitor for PAH that the company commercially distributes in the United States.[2] The company also provides fee-for-service ex-vivo lung perfusion to transplant centers through Lung Bioengineering, using the XVIVO Perfusion System to assess donor-lung function; the service may help make lungs that might otherwise go unused available for transplant.[19][20]

For 2025, TYVASO products together accounted for 59% of total revenue, REMODULIN 17%, ORENITRAM 16% and ADCIRCA 1%.[21] [8]

Geographic presence

United Therapeutics’ reported revenue is concentrated in the United States. In 2025, it recorded $3,037.0 million in U.S. revenue (95.4%) and $145.7 million in rest-of-world revenue (4.6%). For the first half of 2026, the corresponding figures were $1,477.8 million (94.4%) and $87.0 million (5.6%). The company reports foreign revenue as rest of world rather than breaking it down by country.[22][23]

The company identifies co-headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, and Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. Its Silver Spring campus includes laboratory and office space, product manufacturing and an ex-vivo lung perfusion center; its Research Triangle Park site includes research and development, manufacturing, warehousing and logistics operations. Other identified sites include an ex-vivo lung perfusion center in Jacksonville, Florida; a call-center facility in Melbourne, Florida; an aircraft-development facility in Bromont, Quebec; and the Organ Manufacturing Group in Manchester, New Hampshire.[24]

The company’s locations information lists a workforce presence across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, but does not give an employee breakdown by country.[30] [22]

Business segments

United Therapeutics reports one operating and reportable segment, managed on a consolidated basis. The segment focuses on developing and commercializing therapies for chronic and life-threatening conditions; the company does not report separate operating segments by product or therapeutic area.[31]

As an analytical view—not a reported segment breakdown—FY2025 revenue was concentrated in pulmonary hypertension products: the Tyvaso franchise (Tyvaso DPI and nebulized Tyvaso) contributed about 59.0% of total revenue, Remodulin 16.6%, Orenitram 15.6%, Unituxin 7.1%, Adcirca 0.9%, and other products 0.8%.[32] Tyvaso products treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease; Remodulin, Orenitram, and Adcirca are PAH therapies; Unituxin is used to treat neuroblastoma.[8] [31]

Company history

United Therapeutics was incorporated in Delaware as Lung Rx, Inc. on June 26, 1996, founded by Martine Rothblatt to develop a treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH); it adopted the United Therapeutics name in December 1997 and held its initial public offering on June 17, 1999.[4][34] In 2002 and 2004, the FDA approved Remodulin for subcutaneous and intravenous infusion, respectively.[12] The company added inhaled Tyvaso and Adcirca after FDA approvals in 2009.[35]

In 2011, United Therapeutics acquired Revivicor, expanding its work into xenotransplantation and regenerative medicine.[36] The FDA approved oral PAH treatment Orenitram in 2013, and in 2015 approved Unituxin for high-risk pediatric neuroblastoma; that year, founder Martine Rothblatt became co-CEO with Roger Jeffs.[37] In 2021, the FDA expanded Tyvaso’s indication to pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease, and the company converted to a public benefit corporation.[8][39] The FDA approved Tyvaso DPI in 2022, while in 2024 United Therapeutics reported a first human transplant of its investigational thymokidney under compassionate-use authorization.[40][41] [4]
