Products & services

UniFirst provides uniforms, workwear and protective apparel including shirts, pants, jackets, coveralls, lab coats, smocks and aprons, as well as flame-resistant and high-visibility garments. Its services include garment design, manufacture, personalization, rental, cleaning, delivery and sale; the company manufactured about 62% of the garments placed in service in FY2025 [2][10].

Facility and specialty offerings include industrial wiping products, floor mats, dry and wet mops, restroom and cleaning supplies, and other textile products. Cleanroom services cover protective wear, cleanroom garments and non-garment items, with limited on-site cleanroom cleaning. UniFirst also provides nuclear-site decontamination and cleaning of items potentially exposed to radioactive materials, and inspection, testing and maintenance of fire extinguishers and other fire-safety equipment [3][1].

First-aid and safety offerings include first-aid cabinet services, non-prescription medicines, safety supplies and certain safety training; operations also include wholesale distribution and pill-packaging for non-prescription medicines [11][4]. For rental service, UniFirst generally collects soiled garments and items and delivers cleaned, processed replacements periodically, usually weekly. Customers may also choose lease arrangements, in which employees clean and maintain garments, or purchase garments and related items directly; written service contracts typically run three to five years [10][12].

UniFirst does not disclose revenue by individual product category in the FY2025 reporting figures. Its closest breakdown is by segment: Uniform & Facility Service Solutions represented about 91.2% of FY2025 revenue, First Aid & Safety Solutions 4.7%, and Other 4.1% (shares calculated from reported segment revenue) [8]. Company history

UniFirst traces its origins to July 12, 1936, when Aldo Croatti founded National Overall Dry Cleaning Company in Dorchester, Massachusetts. The business began cleaning factory workers’ coveralls and added uniform rental in 1937.[24]

In the late 1940s, the company developed a weekly uniform-rental service. It later expanded into specialized garment processing, including nuclear-contaminated clothing, and opened a cleanroom facility in 1977.[24][15]

UniFirst went public on the New York Stock Exchange in 1983 as Interstate Uniform Service Corporation and adopted the UniFirst name in 1984. In 1991, founder Aldo Croatti’s son Ronald became CEO; the company expanded into first-aid and safety services with its 1999 acquisition of Green Guard First Aid & Safety.[15]

In 2016, UniFirst completed its acquisition of Michigan-based uniform provider Arrow Uniform. Following Ronald Croatti’s death in 2017, Steven S. Sintros was named president and CEO.[26][27] [24]
