Overview

THOR Industries is a global recreational-vehicle manufacturer, producing towable RVs such as travel trailers and fifth wheels, as well as motorized RVs. Its business is organized into North American Towable RVs, North American Motorized RVs, and European RVs, with manufacturing in the United States and Europe and sales primarily across the United States, Canada, and Europe.[1][2]

The company describes its purpose as connecting people with nature and families with one another through outdoor experiences.[3] Founded in 1980, THOR reported $9.608 billion in consolidated net sales for fiscal 2026 and approximately 19,500 full-time employees worldwide as of July 31, 2026.[1] [1]

Products & services

THOR’s North American towable products are travel trailers and fifth wheels. Its brands include Airstream, Jayco, Open Range, Heartland, Keystone, Dutchmen, CrossRoads, KZ and Venture RV, with product lines such as Airstream Basecamp and Flying Cloud, Jayco Jay Flight and Eagle, Keystone Montana and Springdale, and KZ Sportsmen. In FY2026, travel trailers represented 58.7% and fifth wheels 41.3% of North American Towable segment net sales.[6] Airstream’s Basecamp, for example, has a listed exterior length of 20 ft 2 in and base weight of 3,500 lb; Airstream describes its trailers as having riveted aluminum shells.[11][12]

North American motorized products include Class A, B and C motorhomes. Thor Motor Coach models include ACE, Hurricane, Four Winds and Palazzo; Tiffin offers models including Allegro, Phaeton and Zephyr, while Jayco, Entegra Coach and Airstream also have motorized lines. In FY2026, Class A, Class C and Class B motorhomes made up 27.4%, 52.3% and 20.3% of North American Motorized segment net sales, respectively.[6] In Europe, THOR’s EHG operations produce motorcaravans, campervans, urban vehicles and caravans under brands including Bürstner, Dethleffs, Hymer, Laika, LMC and Niesmann+Bischoff. For FY2026, motorcaravans accounted for 55.5%, campervans 28.7%, caravans 4.5% and other products 11.3% of European RV segment net sales.[16][17]

THOR’s stated warranty coverage generally provides for repair, replacement or adjustment of parts that fail to meet defined standards during the applicable warranty period; coverage varies by product and geography, and some vendor-supplied components may also be covered.[18] [6]

Geographic presence

Thor Industries manufactures recreational vehicles in the United States and Europe, with sales primarily through independent dealers in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Its FY2026 report gives North American segment net sales of $5.63 billion and European segment net sales of $3.30 billion—about 58.6% and 34.3%, respectively, of consolidated net sales. These segment figures are not a breakdown of sales by customer destination.[1][4] [1]

Business segments

THOR Industries reports three reportable segments. North American Towable Recreational Vehicles includes Airstream, Jayco, Keystone and KZ towable operations, with products such as travel trailers and fifth wheels. North American Motorized Recreational Vehicles includes Airstream, Jayco, Thor Motor Coach and Tiffin motorized operations, producing Class A, B and C motorhomes. European Recreational Vehicles consists of Erwin Hymer Group, whose products include motorcaravans, campervans, urban vehicles and caravans, along with other RV-related products and services.[2]

In FY2026, the year ended July 31, 2026, net sales were approximately $3.177 billion for North American Towable (33.1% of consolidated net sales), $2.455 billion for North American Motorized (25.6%), and $3.297 billion for European RVs (34.3%). These approximate shares use consolidated net sales of $9.608 billion as the denominator.[4] [2]

Company history

THOR Industries was founded on August 29, 1980, when Wade F. B. Thompson and Peter B. Orthwein acquired Airstream. The company expanded its RV business with acquisitions including General Coach in 1982, Dutchmen in 1991, Keystone RV in 2001 and Damon in 2003; it became publicly traded in 1984.[19][20]

THOR entered the bus business with its 1988 acquisition of ElDorado Bus, then sold that business in 2013 to focus on recreational vehicles. In the intervening years it added Heartland RV (2010) and Jayco (2016), broadening its North American RV portfolio.[19]

After co-founder Wade Thompson’s death in 2009, Orthwein assumed CEO responsibilities. Bob Martin became CEO in 2013, succeeding Orthwein. THOR expanded into Europe with its 2019 acquisition of Erwin Hymer Group and added the luxury motorhome manufacturer Tiffin in 2020.[23] [19]
