Overview

Tetra Tech, Inc. is a global consulting and engineering firm focused on water, environment, and sustainable infrastructure. Its work applies science and technology to projects from planning through delivery. The company’s stated mission is to be the premier global technical and engineering services firm focused on these areas, and its purpose is to improve quality of life worldwide through science, technology, and innovation.[1]

Founded in 1966, Tetra Tech reports operations in 125 countries and more than 25,000 associates worldwide. For fiscal 2025, it reported revenue of $5.443 billion.[3] [1]

Products & services

Tetra Tech’s FY2025 services included water-resource analysis and management, environmental monitoring and data analytics, waste management, and civil-infrastructure planning and resilient design. Its work can cover the full project lifecycle, from data collection and feasibility studies through engineering design, project management, operations, and maintenance.[6][7]

Specific capabilities include integrated water-supply, wastewater, stormwater, and flood-protection systems; smart-water solutions using modeling, instrumentation, controls, and real-time controls; and industrial water treatment, reuse, and facility modernization. Environmental and infrastructure services also include disaster preparedness and response, energy efficiency, GHG assessment and management, landfill and recycling-facility design, and landfill-methane-to-energy solutions.[8]

The company’s proprietary Tetra Tech Delta technology suite combines data collection, analytics, decision-support tools, and AI-enabled asset management; some scalable solutions are offered as software subscriptions. Digital-water capabilities include SCADA integration, cybersecurity, system optimization, real-time control, and machine learning.[12]

For FY2025, reported external-customer revenue was approximately 48.5% from Government Services Group and 51.5% from Commercial/International Services; the company did not report revenue percentages for individual products or service lines.[15] [6]

Geographic presence

Tetra Tech’s FY2025 geographic revenue was concentrated in the United States, which generated $3.446 billion, or 63.3% of total revenue. The United Kingdom accounted for $771.7 million (14.2%), Canada $512.3 million (9.4%), Australia $489.1 million (9.0%), and other countries $223.6 million (4.1%). Percentages are calculated from the reported geographic revenue figures.[16][17]

Its international operations span Canada, Asia Pacific—primarily Australia and New Zealand—Europe, the UK, and South America, primarily Brazil. In the nine months ended June 28, 2026, international work represented 43.5% of revenue by customer sector; the company identifies Australia, Canada, and the UK as primary locations for non-U.S. clients. This sector classification is not the same as revenue by country, and U.S. federal work can include activity outside the United States.[18]

At FY2025 year-end, Tetra Tech leased approximately 570 operating facilities in domestic and foreign locations. Its ten most significant leased properties included its Pasadena headquarters and offices in Arlington, Boston, Irvine, London, Melbourne, New York, Oakland, Portland, and Sydney. The company reported a global workforce of more than 25,000 associates, without a full employee-by-country breakdown.[22] [16]

Business segments

Tetra Tech reports two segments. For the nine months ended June 28, 2026, Government Services Group (GSG) generated $1,655.4 million, approximately 44.3% of external-customer revenue. It provides technical and engineering services primarily to U.S. federal, state and local government clients, spanning defense and civilian work in areas including water, environment, sustainable infrastructure, information technology and disaster management.[26][27]

Commercial/International Services Group (CIG) generated $2,084.0 million, approximately 55.7% of external-customer revenue over the same period. Its focus includes technical and engineering services for U.S. commercial and international clients, including energy, industrial and high-performance buildings, sustainable infrastructure, and related environmental, engineering and project-management services. Percentages are calculated using reported segment revenue of $3,739.4 million in total.[26][28] [26]

Company history

Founded in 1966, Tetra Tech began by providing engineering services for waterways, harbors, and coastal areas, initially operating from one Pasadena, California office. In 1988, it acquired the Water Management Group from Honeywell, marking its independence from the company. The company’s official history does not identify its founders.[2]

Li-San Hwang led the company as CEO until November 2005, when Dan Batrack succeeded him; Batrack became Chairman in 2008. In 2026, Roger Argus succeeded Batrack as CEO, with Batrack becoming Executive Chairman.[30][31]

Tetra Tech expanded through acquisitions as well as internal growth. Among its notable transactions, it acquired Coffey International in 2015–16, eGlobalTech in 2019, and Hoare Lea and Enterprise Automation in 2021. It agreed to acquire RPS Group in 2022 and completed the acquisition in January 2023; in 2025, it acquired Carron + Walsh.[32]
