Overview

Teradyne, Inc., founded in 1960, is a global provider of automated test equipment and robotics. Its core businesses include semiconductor test systems; collaborative robots and autonomous mobile robots; and product-test systems for electronics, wireless, photonics, and defense and aerospace applications. The company reports three segments: Semiconductor Test, Robotics, and Product Test.[1]

Teradyne serves customers across the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Its stated purpose centers on advanced test and automation, working alongside customers to help improve how the world lives, works, and innovates.[4][5]

For 2025, Teradyne reported revenue of $3.190 billion and approximately 6,600 employees worldwide.[6][7] [1]

Products & services

Teradyne’s semiconductor-test products include SoC platforms such as UltraFLEX and UltraFLEXplus, and memory-test systems such as Magnum 7H. UltraFLEX supports SoC testing, with UltraPin1600 configurations offering 128 or 256 channels per instrument and data rates up to 2.2 Gbps. UltraFLEXplus includes Q24, Q12, and Q6 configurations; listed instruments include UltraCTO384 and UltraSerial20G. Magnum 7H tests high-bandwidth memory at wafer, stacked-die-on-wafer, and post-singulation stages, with published capabilities of up to 4.5 Gbps, 9,216 digital pins, and 2,560 power pins. Teradyne also sells and supports semiconductor, hard-disk-drive, and solid-state-drive test systems.[8]

Robotics products include collaborative robot arms, such as the UR20 (20 kg payload and 1,750 mm reach), and autonomous mobile robots, such as MiR250 (250 kg payload and speeds up to 2.0 m/s). Product Test offerings include defense and aerospace test, circuit-board and wireless test systems, and silicon-photonics testing. Omnyx integrates structural, parametric, high-speed-interconnect, and operational testing for printed circuit board assemblies.[3]

For full-year 2025, Semiconductor Test generated $2,523.744 million, or 79.1% of reported segment revenue; Robotics generated $308.295 million (9.7%) and Product Test $357.985 million (11.2%). The latest product-line disclosure provided, for Q2 2026, reported SoC revenue of $842.971 million, memory revenue of $212.333 million, and IST revenue of $66.521 million; it did not report revenue for individual named products.[15][4] [8]

Geographic presence

Teradyne reported FY2025 revenue of approximately $3.19 billion. By customer location, Taiwan was the largest market (36% of revenue), followed by China and Korea (14% each), the United States (11%), Europe (7%), Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines (3% each), Thailand and Japan (2% each), and the rest of the world (4%). Percentages are rounded.[16][17]

The company describes sales and service offices across North America, Central America, Asia and Europe. Test manufacturing is primarily conducted through subcontractors and contract manufacturers, with significant operations in Malaysia; Robotics production is primarily at company facilities in Denmark and the United States.[18]

Named facilities include Teradyne’s approximately 422,000-square-foot headquarters in North Reading, Massachusetts; an approximately 200,000-square-foot Robotics building in Odense, Denmark; a 290,000-square-foot building purchased in Cebu, Philippines in 2025 for Semiconductor Test production; and a leased 68,000-square-foot Robotics manufacturing site in the Metro Detroit area.[19] [16]

Business segments

Teradyne’s current reportable segments are Semiconductor Test, Robotics, and Product Test; the company adopted this structure in 2025 and recast prior-period segment disclosures. The latest 2026 second-quarter filing continues to show these three segments.[20][21]

For 2025, Semiconductor Test focused on semiconductor test products and services, including storage and system-level test products, and contributed approximately 79.1% of revenue ($2,523.744 million). Robotics, comprising collaborative robotic arms and autonomous mobile robots, contributed approximately 9.7% ($308.295 million). Product Test covers defense and aerospace test, circuit-board test, wireless test systems, and silicon photonics testing; its latest description also includes high-speed test and measurement. It contributed approximately 11.2% ($357.985 million). Percentages are calculated from reported segment revenue divided by consolidated revenue of $3,190.024 million.[3]

System Test and Wireless Test were separately identified as operating segments under the 2024 structure, but were not separate reportable segments; they are not separate reportable segments in the current structure.[20] [20]

Company history

Teradyne was founded in 1960 by Alex d’Arbeloff and Nick DeWolf. Its early milestones included the D133 diode tester in 1961 and the J259, introduced in 1966 as an early computer-controlled integrated-circuit test system.[23][24]

The company expanded its semiconductor-test business through acquisitions, including Megatest in 1995, Nextest in 2008 and Eagle Test Systems in 2008. It entered wireless-device testing with the 2011 acquisition of LitePoint.[25]

Teradyne entered industrial robotics by acquiring collaborative-robot maker Universal Robots in 2015 and autonomous-mobile-robot maker Mobile Industrial Robots in 2018. Greg Smith became CEO in February 2023, succeeding Mark Jagiela; in 2024, Teradyne sold its Device Interface Solutions business to Technoprobe.[29]

In 2025, Teradyne acquired Quantifi Photonics, expanding into photonic integrated-circuit testing. In April 2026, it announced the acquisition of TestInsight, extending its test-design software capabilities.[33][34] [33]
