TELECOM ITALIA

Overview

Telecom Italia, operating under the TIM Group brand, is a telecommunications and information and communications technology (ICT) group. Its core business combines fixed and mobile connectivity with digital services for consumers, businesses and public administration, including cloud and cybersecurity solutions.[1]

Italy and Brazil are its principal operating markets. For 2025, the Group reported revenue of €13.7 billion and 26,888 colleagues at year-end.[4][5] TIM expresses its corporate purpose through the phrase “A connection extends life,” framing connectivity as a way to improve everyday life.[6] [1]

Products & services

Telecom Italia’s consumer offerings include fixed fiber connectivity and mobile 5G services. TIM Premium is positioned as an offer for AI, gaming and streaming, supported by TIM’s fiber and 5G infrastructure; the cited materials do not specify its speeds or package features.[7] TIMVISION provides audiovisual and streaming content, while TIM Energia is an energy service powered by Poste Italiane.[10][11]

For businesses and public-sector customers, TIM offers public-cloud IaaS, including scalable compute, storage and network resources, with managed or unmanaged configurations, security, monitoring and optimization; related services include backup, business continuity and recovery. Its SaaS portfolio covers collaboration, productivity, CRM, document management, data analysis and digital workflows. The National Strategic Hub provides hosting, IaaS/PaaS and public-system migration and transformation through four data centers in the Rome and Milan areas.[2] Digital services include certified email (PEC), SPID digital identity, qualified electronic signatures and compliant digital storage.[2] TIM also describes Edge Cloud capabilities for processing data closer to points of use, and IoT, cloud and AI solutions for real-time smart-city monitoring, including traffic, parking, air quality and weather.[12][10] [7]

Geographic presence

Telecom Italia’s principal operating geographies are Italy and Brazil. In FY2025, its disclosed segment revenue was approximately 69% from Italy (Domestic) and 31% from Brazil; these figures reflect segment reporting rather than a separate breakdown by customer location.[13]

At year-end 2025, the company reported 26,888 colleagues: 17,765 in Italy and 9,123 in Brazil. Its listed offices include the headquarters and a branch office in Rome, a registered office in Milan, and corporate buildings in Rio de Janeiro.[5] [13]

Business segments

Telecom Italia’s 2025 report identifies **Domestic**, **Brazil** and **Other operations** as its reportable segments. Domestic covers the group’s Italian operations, while Brazil (also referred to as TIM Brasil) covers its Brazilian telecommunications business. Domestic generated €9.517 billion, approximately **69.3%** of consolidated revenue; Brazil generated €4.217 billion, approximately **30.7%**. Other operations had no third-party revenue reported.[13][16]

The Domestic business is also presented in more detail as **TIM Consumer**, serving households and small and medium-sized businesses with consumer connectivity and related services, and **TIM Enterprise**, serving businesses and public administrations with connectivity and digital/ICT services. In the report’s like-for-like results presentation, these units recorded €6.023 billion and €3.520 billion in revenue, respectively; they are subdivisions of Domestic, not additional reportable segments.[17]

The segment revenue shares above are calculated from reported third-party revenue and consolidated revenue and are rounded to one decimal place. Domestic contributed approximately **53.4%** and Brazil approximately **46.8%** of consolidated segment EBITDA in 2025; Other operations recorded negative EBITDA of €7 million.[13][16] [13]

Company history

Telecom Italia’s roots trace to Italy’s telephone service, which was consolidated into SIP in 1964 after five concessionaires had operated separate networks. In 1994, SIP merged with Italcable, Telespazio, SIRM and Iritel to form Telecom Italia; the company listed on the stock exchange that August. The Italian state sold its stake in a public offering in 1997, completing privatization, while mobile subsidiary Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) had been established in 1995.[19]

The company expanded into residential broadband with its BB·B offer in 2001 and the Alice ADSL brand in 2002. In 2003, Telecom Italia merged into Olivetti, with the resulting company retaining the Telecom Italia name; in 2005, TIM Italia was merged into Telecom Italia, integrating the mobile business into the group.[23]

In 2013, Telecom Italia agreed to sell its stake in Telecom Argentina, completing the sale of its remaining interest in 2016. A major structural change followed in 2024, when it completed the sale of its network and wholesale business, NetCo, to KKR; the business transferred to FiberCop, established through an agreement involving TIM, KKR and Fastweb in 2020.[27] [19]
