SIG Group AG’s product portfolio comprises aseptic and chilled cartons, bag-in-box (BIB) packaging, and spouted pouches. Carton formats include Bloc, Fit, Style, Smile, and Dome, with capacities across the range from 80 ml to 2,000 ml; examples include MidiBloc and MidiFit cartons and the Dome format. SIG also offers SIG Terra cartons designed without an aluminium layer, including versions using forest-based polymers.[4]

BIB products serve retail, foodservice, bulk, and industrial uses, including industrial bags of up to 1,300 litres. Spouted pouches are offered for retail and foodservice applications, with aseptic options and different fitments; named formats include SIG Terra WingTop Pouch, SIG Terra CloverCap Pouch, and SIG Terra OptiTop 2300 Bag-in-Box.[7]

SIG supplies filling equipment for these packaging formats. Its aseptic carton equipment includes small-pack systems for 80–500 ml, with up to nine volumes per machine and speeds of 12,000 or 24,000 packs per hour, and medium-pack systems for 500–2,000 ml, with up to five volumes and three formats per machine at 12,000 packs per hour. BIB and pouch equipment includes systems for filling pre-made bags and horizontal form-fill-seal machines that form packaging from film, add fitments, and fill the product. Services include commissioning and planning, maintenance, spare parts, training, remote support, and digital solutions.[10]

In the six months ended June 30, 2026, packaging sales (cartons, BIB, and spouted pouches reported together) were €1,360.1 million, or 87.2% of revenue; filling-line and related equipment accounted for €90.7 million (5.8%), and services €108.6 million (7.0%). SIG did not separately disclose revenue shares for cartons, BIB, and pouches.[15] [6]

Company history

SIG’s industrial origins date to 1853, when it was founded in Neuhausen, Switzerland, as a railway-wagon works. It entered packaging machinery in 1906 and, by 1930, had developed a beverage carton and filling machine for the European market. In 1975, PKL introduced the combibloc aseptic carton system; SIG acquired PKL in 1989, marking its entry into beverage cartons and liquid-food packaging.[27][28]

After refocusing on packaging around 2000, SIG expanded through partnerships and ownership changes. SIG Combibloc Obeikan was established as a joint venture with Saudi Arabia’s Obeikan Investment Group in 2001, and SIG took full ownership in 2021. Following its acquisition by Onex in 2015, SIG Combibloc listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange in 2018; Onex completed its exit in 2020.[29]

In 2022, SIG acquired Scholle IPN, adding bag-in-box and spouted-pouch packaging, and Evergreen Asia’s chilled-carton business. It subsequently expanded its manufacturing footprint with a chilled-carton factory in Suzhou, China, opened in 2024, and its first aseptic-carton plant in India, which began commercial production in 2025.[34] [27]
