Company history
Sensient traces its origins to Meadow Springs Distillery in 1882. The business became Red Star Yeast & Products Company in 1919 and Universal Foods Corporation in 1962 as it diversified beyond yeast. In 2000, Universal Foods adopted the Sensient Technologies Corporation name; in 2001, it sold its Red Star Yeast business, marking a major shift away from its original business roots.[5][20]
In 2014, Paul Manning became president and chief executive officer, and in 2016 he also became chairman. In 2018, Sensient expanded its natural-colors and botanical-extraction capabilities through acquisitions of GlobeNatural’s natural-color business and Mazza Innovation.[21][22][23][24]
In 2020, Sensient sold its digital-ink business and certain related assets to Sun Chemical and DIC. In 2021, it acquired assets of Flavor Solutions, adding savory flavor and taste-modulation technologies to its portfolio.[25][26][27] [6][5][20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27]
