Scotts Miracle-Gro’s disclosed sales are concentrated in the United States. For the first nine months of fiscal 2026, its U.S. Consumer segment substantially exceeded the Other segment; the company describes Other as primarily its Canadian consumer lawn-and-garden business. These segment figures indicate a U.S.-weighted profile but do not provide an exact country-level revenue split.[13][14]

It reports 45 U.S. manufacturing, 12 distribution, and four R&D properties; 16 Canadian manufacturing, one distribution, and one R&D property; and one R&D property in China. Business segments

For FY2025, Scotts Miracle-Gro reported three operating segments: U.S. Consumer and Hawthorne, which are reportable segments, and Other, which is nonreportable. U.S. Consumer covers the company’s U.S. consumer lawn and garden business; Hawthorne focuses on indoor and hydroponic gardening; Other primarily comprises consumer lawn and garden operations in Canada.[17][3]

Based on FY2025 net sales, U.S. Consumer generated $2,993.7 million, or approximately 87.7% of consolidated sales of $3,413.1 million. Hawthorne generated $165.8 million, or approximately 4.9%. Other represents approximately 7.4% as a residual calculation; its sales were not separately stated in the retrieved segment disclosure.[18][5]

U.S. Consumer’s products include lawn fertilizer, seed and weed or pest control, as well as plant foods, potting mixes, soils, mulches and other gardening and landscape products.[2][9] [17]

Company history

The company traces its roots to 1868, when Orlando McLean Scott opened a hardware store in Marysville, Ohio, and began selling weed-free seed to farmers. Scotts made its first retail shipment in 1924 and introduced Scotts Turf Builder in 1928. Miracle-Gro was founded separately in 1951 by Horace Hagedorn and Otto Stern; the two businesses merged in 1995 to form the company now known as ScottsMiracle-Gro.[19]

Scotts expanded its consumer lawn-and-garden portfolio in 1999 by acquiring Monsanto’s consumer lawn-and-garden assets, including Ortho. In the 2010s, it added the Tomcat rodent-control business, established Hawthorne Gardening in 2014 to focus on indoor and urban gardening, and acquired hydroponics distributor Sunlight Supply in 2018.[20]

Jim Hagedorn became CEO in 2001 and chairman in 2003. In 2026, Scotts completed the sale of Hawthorne and announced Nate Baxter as president and CEO, succeeding Hagedorn; Pete Shumlin was elected chairman.[24]
