Overview

Samsara Inc. is a San Francisco-based software and Internet of Things company serving organizations with physical operations. Its Connected Operations Platform combines data from connected devices, assets and other systems to help customers manage safety, efficiency and sustainability. Its applications include video-based safety, vehicle telematics, asset tracking and maintenance. Samsara’s stated mission is to improve “the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the operations that power the global economy.” [1]

Samsara serves customers across industries including transportation, construction, logistics, manufacturing, utilities and field services. It operates primarily in the United States, with sales in Western Europe, Canada and Mexico. Revenue was approximately $1.62 billion in the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, and the company had more than 4,100 full-time employees at year-end.[5] [1]

Products & services

Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform combines connected devices with cloud software for fleets, equipment and physical sites. Its Vehicle Telematics products provide real-time GPS location, vehicle diagnostics, routing and dispatch, fuel-efficiency information, and preventive-maintenance insights. Video-Based Safety uses AI dash cams to detect driving risks, issue in-cab alerts, prioritize video events and support driver coaching and incident review. Samsara also offers front-facing and dual-facing AI dash cams and an AI Multicam system that adds auxiliary camera views around a vehicle.[9]

Its asset-management products use gateways to track larger equipment and report data such as engine hours, fuel levels and diagnostics, while asset tags help locate smaller tools. Connected Maintenance uses diagnostic data and work-order workflows to manage repairs and preventive maintenance. Site Visibility applies cloud-based AI to video from third-party cameras to identify hazards and unusual activity at facilities, and Connected Forms digitizes field reports, inspections and checklists.[15]

Subscriptions generally bundle device data collection and cellular connectivity with access to applications, APIs and a marketplace, plus customer support and warranty coverage. Connected Operations Platform subscriptions accounted for approximately 98% of revenue in each of fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2025; Samsara does not disclose a revenue breakdown for the individual products above.[2][3] [9]

Geographic presence

Samsara is headquartered in San Francisco, California. In its fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, it generated $1.39 billion, or approximately 86%, of revenue from U.S. customers and $233 million, or approximately 14%, from customers outside the United States. Its international sales include Western Europe, Canada and Mexico; it does not report a country-by-country revenue breakdown.[20]

Samsara leases offices in the United States and in countries across Europe, North America and Asia. Its employee base spans the United States, Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, India, England, France, Germany, Poland and the Benelux region. It does not disclose employee counts by location.[22][6] [20]

Business segments

Samsara reports **one operating and reportable segment**, so it does not assign revenue shares to separate product or geographic segments. That segment accounts for 100% of reported revenue.[23]

Within that segment, Samsara’s Connected Operations Platform includes AI Video-Based Safety for driver-risk detection and coaching; Telematics for vehicle location, diagnostics and fleet management; Asset Tracking for equipment visibility; and Site Visibility for monitoring worksites. Connected Forms and Connected Training support frontline workflows. These are product offerings, not separately reported segments, and Samsara does not disclose their individual revenue contributions.[11]

Samsara instead disaggregates revenue by type: subscriptions to its integrated platform generated approximately **98.1%** of fiscal 2026 revenue, while other revenue generated approximately **1.9%**. Other revenue includes replacement devices, related shipping and handling, and professional services; these categories should not be interpreted as product-segment shares.[26] [23]

Company history

Samsara was founded in 2015 by Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket, who had previously co-founded the networking company Meraki. Its first product, the Vehicle Gateway, gave fleet operators GPS tracking, vehicle diagnostics and operational visibility.[4]

The company expanded its fleet offerings in 2017 with dash cameras and an electronic logging device solution for regulatory compliance. It introduced AI Dash Cams in 2019, extending its focus on driver safety, and announced Site Visibility for monitoring worksites in 2021. Later that year, Samsara completed its initial public offering and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol IOT.[29] [4]
