Company history
Reliance was founded in Los Angeles on February 3, 1939, by Thomas J. Neilan as Reliance Steel Products Company. It began as a metals service center distributing and fabricating steel reinforcing bar for construction, and later expanded through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions.[19][20][21]
The company completed its initial public offering on September 16, 1994.[19] Karla R. Lewis became president in 2021 and succeeded James D. Hoffman as CEO on January 1, 2023.[22] Reliance acquired Southern Steel Supply in 2023, then completed four acquisitions in 2024 as it continued to expand its products, processing capabilities and geographic reach.[23][24] In February 2024, it changed its corporate name from Reliance Steel & Aluminum Co. to Reliance, Inc.[19] [19][20][21][22][23][24][20][21][22]
