Overview
RB Global, Inc. operates an omnichannel marketplace for commercial assets and vehicles, combining in-person auctions and digital marketplaces with transaction-related services. Its offerings connect buyers and sellers across areas including construction and industrial equipment, transportation, automotive, agriculture, energy, and government surplus; its marketplace brands include Ritchie Bros., IronPlanet, GovPlanet, and IAA.[1][2][3][4]
The company’s stated positioning is to connect buyers and sellers of commercial assets and vehicles through marketplaces, insights, and services. Its roots trace to an auction business established by the Ritchie brothers in British Columbia in 1958. At the end of FY2025, RB Global operated auction sites in 14 countries and its digital platform served customers in approximately 170 countries; it reported FY2025 revenue of $4.59 billion and approximately 8,000 full-time and 700 part-time employees worldwide.[5][6][7][8] [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][5]

Business segments
RB Global reports one operating and reportable segment, rather than separate named business segments. Its latest available filing as of October 2, 2026, for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, confirms this reporting structure.[13]
For FY2025, revenue categories—not reportable segments—provide the closest disclosed breakdown: service revenue was approximately 76.3% of total revenue and inventory sales revenue approximately 23.7%. Service revenue comprised transactional buyer revenue (about 48.8% of total revenue), transactional seller revenue (20.2%), and marketplace services revenue (7.3%).[14][15]
The company also describes customer-facing solution families, including Transaction Solutions (auction and marketplace offerings), Financial Services, Appraisal Services, Inspection Services, and Listings Services. These are solution groupings, not separate reportable segments; the cited filing does not provide revenue shares for them.[3] [13][14][15][15][15][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3][3]
Company history
Brothers Dave, Ken and John Ritchie held their first auction in 1958 to sell surplus furniture from their Kelowna store. In 1963, the business held its first major unreserved industrial-equipment auction, in Radium Hot Springs.[16][17]
The company expanded beyond Canada with auctions in Europe beginning in 1987, Australia in 1990 and Asia in 1994. It went public on the NYSE in 1998, the same year annual gross auction proceeds first exceeded US$1 billion, and introduced real-time online bidding in 2002.[16]
In 2017, Ritchie Bros. completed its acquisition of IronPlanet, broadening its digital marketplace. It later acquired Rouse Services in 2020 and SmartEquip in 2021, adding asset-management, data and equipment-service capabilities.[18][19][20]
The company completed its merger with IAA in 2023 and adopted RB Global as its corporate name, while retaining Ritchie Bros. as a marketplace brand. In 2025, it completed its acquisition of J.M. Wood Auction Co.[21][22][23] [17][21][16][18][19][20][22][23]
