RANGE RESOURCES CORP

Updated

Overview

Range Resources Corporation is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company focused on natural gas, natural-gas liquids (NGLs) and oil, with its operations centered on the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. It markets products to domestic and international customers, while its operating activity is in Pennsylvania.[1]

The company describes its business objective as building stockholder value through returns-focused development of its natural gas, NGL and oil properties. For FY2025, total revenues and other income were $3.116 billion; Range reported 564 full-time employees as of January 1, 2026. The company was incorporated in 1980.[4] [1]

Products & services

Range Resources’ principal products are natural gas, natural gas liquids (NGLs), and oil. NGLs are recovered through processing natural gas; the company describes NGL pricing by the gallon and sales by the barrel. Ethane is included in proved reserves to reflect volumes deliverable under existing long-term, extendable ethane contracts.[7][8]

The company markets most production from its operated properties, including production attributable to other working-interest owners. Sales prices are negotiated with reference to index or spot prices and factors such as delivery distance, processing costs, commodity quality, and supply and demand. Range also describes buying and reselling gas and NGLs to meet sales commitments or use contracted infrastructure capacity.[9][10]

By calculation from reported product sales, FY2025 sales were approximately 61.5% natural gas, 34.8% NGLs, and 3.8% oil; for the first half of 2026, the respective shares were approximately 61.0%, 33.4%, and 5.6%. These percentages represent the mix of reported product sales, not total company revenue.[11][12] [7]

Geographic presence

Range Resources’ operations are concentrated in Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale. At year-end 2025, it reported 763,362 net acres in Pennsylvania out of 782,776 net acres across Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Texas, West Virginia and New York—about 97.5% of its listed net acreage. The company reported that substantially all of its reserves and production were in the Marcellus, and that its producing-well footprint was centered in Pennsylvania.[13][14] Its principal executive office is in Fort Worth, Texas; a Canonsburg, Pennsylvania address is listed in a regional business directory.[15][16]

Range reports that its exploration and production operations are limited to the onshore United States and that sales transfer title and control in the onshore United States, but it does not disclose revenue by state or region. It reported 564 full-time employees as of January 1, 2026, without a geographic breakdown of employees.[17][6] [13]

Business segments

Range Resources reports one operating segment, encompassing its exploration, development and acquisition of natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil properties in the Appalachian region. The company treats gathering, processing and marketing as integral to its producing activities and manages its properties together rather than as separate segments.[17][18]

Accordingly, the single segment represents the company’s entire reported business (approximately 100%); Range does not report separate segment contribution percentages or distinct segment-level allocations.[17][18] [17][18]

Company history

Lomak Petroleum, Range Resources’ predecessor, was incorporated in 1980 after its founders had been active in the Appalachian Basin oil and gas business. In 1998, Lomak merged with Domain Energy and adopted the Range Resources name.[19][20]

The company expanded its Pennsylvania operations through acquisitions in the early 1990s, including the purchase of Pittsburgh-based Mark Resources. In 2004, Range acquired FirstEnergy’s remaining interest in Great Lakes Energy Partners and drilled the Renz #1, its first viable exploratory well in the Marcellus Shale; its first commercial Marcellus well came online in 2005. Range later expanded its Marcellus acreage and infrastructure, reporting net production of 400 MMcfe per day in 2011.[21]

Range and EQT completed an asset exchange in 2014. In 2016, Range completed an all-stock merger with Memorial Resource Development, adding North Louisiana assets; it subsequently sold its Terryville upstream assets there in 2020. Jeff Ventura became CEO in 2012, and Dennis Degner succeeded him in 2023.[25] [19]
