Puig also presents revenue by geography—EMEA, The Americas and Asia-Pacific—as a separate breakdown, rather than as additional business segments.[4] [4][4][4][4][4][4][4][8][27][28][11][29]
Company history
Puig’s family fragrance and cosmetics business was founded in Barcelona in 1914 by Antonio Puig Castelló. Early milestones included Milady, launched in 1922 and described by the company as Spain’s first locally manufactured lipstick, and Agua Lavanda PUIG, introduced in 1940. The founder’s sons joined the business in 1950, and Puig established its first subsidiary outside Spain in 1962.[2][30]
Puig expanded into fashion and international fragrances through its Paco Rabanne Parfums division, created in 1968, and its acquisition of the Paco Rabanne business in 1987. It launched its first Carolina Herrera fragrance in 1988, acquired Carolina Herrera New York’s fashion division in 1995, and added Nina Ricci’s fragrance and fashion business in 1998. Marc Puig became CEO in 2004 and chairman in 2007; subsequent additions included Jean Paul Gaultier in 2011, Penhaligon’s and L’Artisan Parfumeur in 2015, Charlotte Tilbury in 2020, and a majority stake in Byredo in 2022.[2][31][32][33][34]
In January 2024, Puig acquired a majority stake in Dr. Barbara Sturm. On May 3, 2024, its shares began trading on Spain’s stock exchanges, a major public-market milestone in the company’s 110th anniversary year.[35][36] [2][30][31][32][33][34][35][36]
