Overview

Prosus is a global technology group with businesses and investments in growth markets around the world. The company is focused on building lifestyle ecommerce ecosystems in Latin America, India and Europe, with core activities spanning food delivery, classifieds, payments and fintech, etail, edtech and other internet-based services, and it states its mission as improving everyday life for billions of people through AI-first technology.[1]

Prosus has a broad international footprint and says it is active in over 100 countries, with a strong presence in markets including India, Latin America and Central/Eastern Europe. In FY2025, it reported total revenue of US$6.17 billion and had 22,159 employees globally.[6] [1]

Products & services

Prosus’ products are primarily delivered through portfolio platforms rather than a single unified brand. In food delivery, iFood combines restaurant ordering with adjacent merchant and financial tools: Clube is a subscription-style loyalty programme that offers personalised deals, Anota AI is a WhatsApp chatbot for restaurants, and iFood Pago covers meal-voucher products for consumers and credit products for businesses. iFood also operates at large scale, with nearly 56 million active users annually, 25 million monthly unique buyers, more than 410,000 merchants, more than 440,000 drivers and coverage in over 1,580 Brazilian cities.[9] In classifieds, OLX’s core products span goods, jobs, motors and real estate, with specific features including car-history data, virtual tours, inspections and data services, dealer ratings and verification, car financing and leasing, and mortgages; Prosus also reports nearly 29 million monthly active users and about 64 million daily active listings for the OLX ecosystem.[12][13]

In payments and fintech, PayU provides digital payment acceptance across more than 150 online payment methods and also offers BNPL and other consumer-credit products. Its merchant suite includes value-added services beyond payment processing, while Wibmo adds payment authentication, merchant acquiring and risk-management services, and Mindgate adds real-time payments technology and UPI capabilities in India.[14] In ecommerce, eMAG operates a marketplace and retail platform in Central and Eastern Europe, supported by Genius (free priority delivery and extended returns), eMAG Wallet, and HeyBlu, which offers instalment credit products from Slice6 to Slice36. The broader eMAG ecosystem also includes Sameday parcel delivery and lockers, Freshful e-grocery with around 17,000 items and refrigerated delivery, and Flip, which refurbishes, repairs and resells used consumer electronics.[17]

In edtech, Prosus’ products include Stack Overflow’s developer knowledge platform and OverflowAPI, which lets AI and LLM providers use Stack Overflow’s public data; Brainly, an AI learning platform; GoodHabitz, an online training provider; and Eruditus, which delivers executive education and short online courses with university partners.[23] Where Prosus discloses scale by operating line, reported FY25 revenue was US$2.5 billion for eMAG, US$1.3 billion for iFood, US$1.3 billion for payments and fintech, US$788 million for OLX classifieds, and US$170 million for edtech.[28] [9]

Geographic presence

Prosus reports its business across four main geographic areas: Asia, Europe, Latin America and North America, with an additional “Other” category that mainly covers Africa and Australia. The group says it is active in more than 100 countries, with a particularly strong footprint in India, Latin America, and Central and Eastern Europe, and it notes that its operations in Latin America are currently anchored in Brazil. Within specific businesses, PayU identifies India as its largest market, iyzico is based in Türkiye, and eMAG’s growth in FY25 was led by Romania.[33]

For the year ended 31 March 2025, revenue from continuing operations was concentrated in Europe at US$3.692 billion, or about 59.8% of the total, followed by Latin America at US$1.572 billion, or about 25.5%, Asia at US$718 million, or about 11.6%, North America at US$122 million, or about 2.0%, and Other at US$66 million, or about 1.1%. Within Asia, India contributed US$660 million of the US$718 million regional total, while Europe was heavily weighted toward Eastern Europe at US$2.816 billion, compared with Central Europe at US$788 million and Western Europe at US$88 million.[39]

Prosus’s registered head office is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, at Gustav Mahlerplein 5, Symphony Offices, 1082 MS. Its FY25 workforce was also geographically concentrated in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, which accounted for 11,915 employees (54%), followed by Latin America with 7,463 (34%), Asia Pacific with 2,513 (11%), and North America with 268 (1%), for a total headcount of 22,159.[40][8] [33]

Business segments

Prosus’s latest operating revenue disclosure breaks the business into six ecommerce segments: Classifieds, Food Delivery, Payments and Fintech, Etail, Edtech, and Other Ecommerce. The focus areas are fairly specific: Classifieds covers online classifieds platforms such as OLX and letgo plus automotive and real-estate verticals; Food Delivery covers online food ordering and delivery through iFood and includes part of the credit offering; Payments and Fintech is centered on PayU’s mobile and online payments platform plus fintech and credit interests; Etail comprises eMAG; Edtech includes assets such as Stack Overflow and GoodHabitz; and Other Ecommerce includes mobile/content businesses and ecommerce support functions.[41]

Based on FY25 consolidated revenue of US$6.17 billion, Etail was the largest segment at about 39.8% of revenue, followed by Payments and Fintech at 21.7%, Food Delivery at 21.6%, Classifieds at 12.8%, Edtech at 2.8%, and Other Ecommerce at 1.3%; these percentages correspond to disclosed revenues of US$2,457 million, US$1,339 million, US$1,334 million, US$788 million, US$170 million, and US$82 million, respectively.[47] Prosus has also sometimes used a broader portfolio framing around ecommerce and its social-and-internet-platforms exposure through Tencent, but the latest revenue split is the six-part ecommerce segmentation above.[48][47] [41]

Company history

Prosus was created in 2019 as the vehicle for Naspers’s international internet assets. Before the listing, Naspers carried out a restructuring that placed the subsidiary holding the group’s indirect Tencent investment inside Prosus, and on 11 September 2019 Prosus began trading on Euronext Amsterdam with a secondary inward listing on the JSE.[49]

After listing, Prosus’s history was shaped by portfolio expansion and capital-structure changes. In August 2021 it completed a share exchange transaction with Naspers, and in the same year it acquired Stack Overflow.[52][53] Prosus also increased its interest in iFood in 2021 to about 62% through an additional investment in Movile, then acquired the remaining 33.3% stake in November 2022.[54][55] In 2023, the group moved to remove the cross-holding between Naspers and Prosus, simplifying the corporate structure.[56] [50]
