Business segments
Prosperity Bancshares reports one operating and reportable segment: banking. The company aggregates its banking operations into a single segment, which offers traditional loan and deposit products primarily to individual consumers and businesses in Texas and Oklahoma.[24][1]
This single segment represents approximately 100% of reported operations; the company does not disclose separate segment contributions. Its chief operating decision maker assesses performance and resource allocation using consolidated net income, rather than results for multiple reportable segments.[24] [24][1][26][27]
Company history
Prosperity Bancshares traces its roots to First National Bank of Edna, Texas, chartered in 1949. The holding company was formed in 1983 to acquire the former Allied Bank, which became Prosperity Bank.[1]
From 2005 through 2014, Prosperity expanded through acquisitions across Texas, including Texas United Bancshares in 2007, American State Bank in 2012, First Victoria National Bank and Oklahoma-based Coppermark Bank in 2013, and F&M Bank & Trust in 2014.[28] In 2019, it completed its merger with LegacyTexas Bank, adding a substantial Dallas–Fort Worth presence; Kevin Hanigan became president and chief operating officer at the time.[29][30]
Prosperity continued expanding in West Texas with the 2023 acquisition of First Bancshares of Texas and the 2024 merger with Lone Star State Bancshares.[31][32] In 2026, it completed mergers with American Bank Holding Corporation and Southwest Bancshares, followed by the July 1 completion of its merger with Houston-based Stellar Bancorp, a major expansion in the Houston area.[33][34][35][36] [1][28][29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][30][33][34][36]
