PINTEREST, INC.

Overview

Pinterest, Inc. operates an AI-powered visual search and discovery platform where people find ideas, save them as Pins, and organize them on boards. The platform combines search, recommendations and shopping-related content; its business is funded substantially by advertising that helps businesses reach people as they explore ideas and products. Pinterest’s mission is “to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love.” [1]

Pinterest has users in more than 100 countries, with 619 million monthly active users reported for 2025. It generated approximately $4.22 billion in revenue in 2025 and employed 5,265 full-time people at year-end. Its audience is global, while the United States and Canada account for the largest share of its revenue.[5] [1]

Products & services

Pinterest’s consumer product centers on Pins—clickable images, videos, collages and merchant-uploaded products that people discover in a personalized Home Feed or through search. Users can save and organize Pins on topical boards, while Related Pins surfaces visually similar ideas. Its visual-search and recommendation systems use computer vision to identify products in images and suggest relevant content.[7]

For merchants and advertisers, Pinterest offers catalog-based Shopping ads alongside standard image, video, carousel, collection, interactive and Idea ads. Collection ads pair lifestyle imagery or video with featured products; Premier Spotlight provides exclusive placements in the Home Feed and search. Ad formats support brand-awareness and performance objectives, and many offer links that take users directly to an advertiser’s website or app. Advertising generates substantially all of Pinterest’s revenue; the company does not specify a revenue percentage for individual formats.[11] [7]

Geographic presence

Pinterest is headquartered in San Francisco, California, and operates offices elsewhere in the United States and internationally. Its San Francisco headquarters occupies approximately 120,000 square feet; its offices collectively occupied approximately 604,000 square feet at the end of 2025. Pinterest reported users in more than 100 countries.[21]

In 2025, Pinterest recorded $3.053 billion of revenue from the U.S. and Canada, $779 million from Europe, and $390 million from the rest of the world—approximately 72%, 18%, and 9% of total revenue, respectively. Revenue attributed specifically to the United States was $2.912 billion, or approximately 69% of the total; no other individual country accounted for more than 10%. These financial-statement figures are assigned geographically by customers’ billing addresses, rather than users’ locations.[23] [21]

Business segments

Pinterest reports one operating segment rather than separate businesses with distinct segment results. Its chief executive officer assesses performance and allocates resources using consolidated financial information alongside disaggregated revenue data. The company generates revenue by delivering advertising on its website and mobile application; it does not report separate advertising-product segments.[26][27]

Pinterest also discloses a geographic revenue breakdown based on customers’ billing addresses. In 2025, the U.S. and Canada accounted for approximately 72% of revenue ($3.05 billion), Europe for 18% ($779 million), and Rest of World for 9% ($390 million). These are geographic revenue categories, not separately reported operating segments.[25][23] [26]

Company history

Pinterest was launched in 2010 by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra and Evan Sharp as a place to discover and save ideas in collections called boards. It expanded to Android and iPad apps in 2012. Pinterest began testing paid Promoted Pins in 2014 and introduced Buyable Pins, which allowed purchases from eligible Pins, in 2015. In 2017, it launched Lens, a feature for searching with images, and reported more than 200 million monthly users.[28]

Pinterest went public on the New York Stock Exchange in April 2019 under the ticker PINS. In 2022, it acquired fashion-shopping platform THE YES, and Bill Ready succeeded Silbermann as chief executive; Silbermann became executive chairman.[34] [28]
