Oriental Land Co., Ltd. is a Japanese leisure and entertainment company centered on Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, Chiba. It operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, along with Disney hotels and other resort facilities; its principal businesses are theme parks and hotels. The company was established in 1960 and operates its Disney-branded facilities under license from Disney Enterprises, Inc.[1]

In the fiscal year ended March 2025, theme parks accounted for approximately 81% of consolidated sales, hotels 16%, and other businesses 2%; within theme-park sales, attractions and shows were the largest revenue category, followed by merchandise and food and beverages.[8] [3]

Oriental Land’s operations are concentrated in Urayasu, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Tokyo Disney Resort—including Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, resort hotels and the Ikspiari shopping and dining complex—is located there, despite the “Tokyo” name. The company lists offices in Maihama and Shin-Urayasu, both in Urayasu.[2][1]

Company history

Oriental Land was established on July 11, 1960, through an initiative led by Chiharu Kawasaki of Keisei Electric Railway and Hideo Edo of Mitsui Fudosan. Its early plans included reclaiming land off Urayasu for a large recreational facility.[13] In 1979, the company signed an agreement with Disney to build and operate Tokyo Disneyland, which opened on April 15, 1983.[14][15]

Oriental Land listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s First Section in 1996.[16] It expanded beyond the original park with the opening of Ikspiari and the Disney Ambassador Hotel in 2000, followed by Tokyo DisneySea and Hotel MiraCosta in 2001.[17][18] A later major expansion was Fantasy Springs, which opened at Tokyo DisneySea in 2024.[19] [13]
