Okta, Inc.

Updated

Overview

Okta, Inc. is a software company in the identity and access management sector. Its cloud-based Okta and Auth0 platforms help organizations manage and secure access for employees, customers, developers, and applications.[1][2] The company describes its vision as “to free everyone to safely use any technology.” [3]

Okta serves organizations globally; as of January 31, 2026, 44% of its workforce was based outside the United States.[4][5] For fiscal 2026, it reported revenue of $2.919 billion and 6,366 employees.[6][5] [1]

Products & services

Okta’s products are organized around the Okta Platform for workforce identity and the Auth0 Platform for customer and developer identity. The Okta Platform includes Single Sign-On for access to cloud and on-premises applications; Adaptive Multi-Factor Authentication and passwordless Okta FastPass; Universal Directory for user, application and device profiles; and API Access Management and Access Gateway. Device Access extends identity controls to device login.[7]

Identity security and administration products include Identity Threat Protection, which continually evaluates risk and policies and can trigger remediation; Identity Security Posture Management; Lifecycle Management for onboarding and offboarding; Workflows for low- and no-code process automation; and Identity Governance for access requests, certifications and reporting. Advanced Server Access and Okta Privileged Access address privileged access to infrastructure and resources. Okta for AI Agents and Cross App Access, identified as early-access offerings in the FY2026 filing, address AI-agent identity and governance of agent and application-to-application access.[13]

The Auth0 Platform provides developer tools for customer identity, including Universal Login, bot and attack protection, adaptive MFA, passwordless authentication and passkeys, machine-to-machine tokens, and enterprise connections and federation. Other capabilities include Organizations for distinct customer or partner experiences, extensibility through Actions, Forms, Event Streams and Marketplace, fine-grained authorization, Private Cloud deployment, and Auth0 for AI Agents. Okta describes its cloud architecture as multi-tenant and encrypted, with support for integration with on-premises components and hybrid environments; it also offers three support tiers, with its highest tiers including 24/7 support and access to Customer Success and Technical Account Managers.[22] The FY2026 filing reports one reportable segment and does not disclose revenue or performance percentages by individual product or platform.[35] [7]

Geographic presence

For FY2026, ended January 31, 2026, the United States accounted for approximately 80% of Okta’s revenue and international markets 20%, compared with 21% international revenue in FY2025. The filing does not provide a country-level revenue breakdown.[5]

Okta’s principal executive office is in San Francisco, California. Its listed global offices include Dublin, London, Bengaluru, Singapore, and Sydney; Okta identifies Dublin as its international hub, Bengaluru as its India Innovation Centre, and London as its EMEA headquarters.[36]

At January 31, 2026, long-lived assets were $73 million in the United States and $30 million in the rest of the world; these figures reflect asset location, not regional revenue or employee distribution.[41][42] [5]

Business segments

Okta reports one operating and reportable segment, rather than separate business segments. The segment operates the Okta Platform, which supports identity governance and lifecycle management, access management, authentication, and connectivity for people and non-human identities accessing applications and data; it accounts for 100% of consolidated revenue by virtue of being the sole reported segment.[35][43]

Okta separately reports revenue by type, but these are not segments. In the six months ended July 31, 2026, subscription revenue was $1,543 million (about 98.3% of total revenue), while professional services and other revenue was $27 million (about 1.7%).[44][45] [35]

Company history

Okta was founded in 2009 by Todd McKinnon and Frederic Kerrest, and incorporated as Saasure Inc. before reincorporating as Okta, Inc. in 2010.[36][3] It completed its initial public offering in April 2017, with shares beginning to trade on Nasdaq as OKTA.[46]

The company expanded its identity and integration capabilities through acquisitions, completing the purchase of workflow-automation company Azuqua in 2019.[47][48] In 2021, it agreed to acquire Auth0 for approximately $6.5 billion and completed the acquisition that May; the following year, it introduced Okta Customer Identity Cloud, based on Auth0.[49] Okta completed its acquisition of identity-security company Spera Security in February 2024.[52] [36]
