Company profile

NUSCALE POWER Corp

Updated

Overview

NuScale Power Corp is a U.S. advanced nuclear technology company focused on commercializing small modular reactors (SMRs). Its core product is the NuScale Power Module, a modular light-water reactor designed to be combined in scalable plant configurations. The company’s business includes reactor technology commercialization and related engineering, licensing and services.[1][2]

NuScale’s stated mission is to provide scalable nuclear technology for electricity, heat and clean-water applications and to support a global energy transition with carbon-free energy. It describes its commercialization reach as global, with projects and development activity in the United States and Romania.[2]

Founded in 2007, NuScale identifies its NRC-certified SMR design as a defining company milestone. Its latest available annual report is for FY2025; reported revenue was approximately $31.5 million.[3] [1]

Products & services

NuScale Power’s core product is the NuScale Power Module (NPM), a modular light-water reactor rated at 77 MWe gross per module. Its reactor core, helical-coil steam generators and pressurizer are integrated inside a reactor pressure vessel, which is enclosed by a steel containment vessel and designed to operate in a below-ground, water-filled pool. The module uses natural circulation rather than reactor coolant pumps and incorporates passive safety systems designed to maintain cooling without external power, additional water or human or computer action following an extreme event. NuScale identifies electricity generation, desalination, hydrogen production and process heat as potential applications; its published specifications also state a capacity factor above 95%.[6]

NuScale describes customer services spanning licensing, design, development, construction, operation and maintenance, with engagement beginning roughly five years before commercial operation. Other lifecycle services identified include start-up and testing, nuclear-fuel and refueling services.[12]

In FY2025, “Power Plant and NPM related services” accounted for about 95.5% of reported revenue ($30.077 million of $31.479 million total). This is a broad services category, not revenue from delivered reactor modules; the filing says revenue to date has primarily come from engineering and licensing fees and services for potential customers.[15][13] [6]

Geographic presence

NuScale Power’s disclosed operations and long-lived assets are primarily located in the United States. Its principal executive office is in Corvallis, Oregon, and the company also reported leasing an office facility in Houston, Texas. At year-end 2025, its 428 full-time employees were concentrated in the Houston and Corvallis areas and worked across 42 U.S. states and the District of Columbia; no employee counts by location were disclosed. Long-lead material work in process manufactured in South Korea was an exception to the U.S.-centered asset footprint.[16]

The company’s principal specified deployment project is in Doicești, Romania. It also has U.S. development activity through a non-binding collaboration involving ENTRA1 and TVA, while its E2 control-room simulator centers operate at facilities across the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. NuScale does not disclose revenue by country or region, and reports one operating segment.[20] [16]

Business segments

NuScale Power reports one business and reportable segment, encompassing the company’s operations; accordingly, this segment represents 100% of reported segment activity, with no separately reported segment contribution percentages or revenue split among subsegments [25][26]. Its focus is commercializing a scalable light-water-reactor nuclear plant based on NuScale Power Modules. The company says current revenue has come from engineering and licensing fees and services for potential customers, while anticipated lifecycle services include plant start-up, testing, nuclear fuel and refueling; it also aims to sell the modules [27][28]. Company history

NuScale Power traces its reactor-development work to a U.S. Department of Energy-funded research program that began in 2000; the company was founded in 2007. In 2011, Fluor invested in NuScale and became its majority investor. The DOE selected NuScale for small modular reactor funding in 2013, followed by a cooperative agreement providing up to $217 million in matching funds over five years.[29] John Hopkins was named CEO in 2012.[32]

A major regulatory milestone came in 2020, when NuScale’s small modular reactor design received U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission design approval. NuScale and Romanian utility Nuclearelectrica began exploring a potential project in 2019, advancing the effort through subsequent agreements and engineering work.[33][34]

In 2022, NuScale completed its merger with Spring Valley Acquisition Corp., became a publicly traded company, and began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SMR.[35] Its first U.S. customer project, the Carbon Free Power Project with Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems, was terminated by mutual agreement in 2023. In 2025, the NRC issued a Standard Design Approval for NuScale’s 77-MWe module design, a second major regulatory milestone for the company.[36][37] [29]
