Nicolet Bankshares is headquartered in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Its branch offices and customer markets are primarily in Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, and Minnesota. The company also operates a branch in Naples, Florida; its investor overview describes more than 110 branches across the four upper Midwest states, in addition to the Naples location.[20][21][22][23]
Nicolet sold its Denver, Colorado banking branches, acquired in the MidWestOne transaction, in a sale that closed July 28, 2026. At June 30, 2026, the Denver locations had approximately $402 million in loans and $388 million in deposits.[24] The company’s Q2 2026 disclosures do not provide state-by-state revenue or employee counts.[25] [20][21][24][25][22][23]
Business segments
Nicolet Bankshares reports one operating and reportable segment, described as its banking segment; it aggregates its financial-services operations because they are conducted as community banking activities rather than regularly managed as separate segments. Accordingly, the banking segment represents approximately 100% of the company’s reported segment activity.[26][27][28]
The segment primarily serves commercial customers and generates revenue through loans and deposits for businesses, consumers and government municipalities. Its offerings include commercial, agricultural, residential real-estate and consumer lending, as well as checking, savings, money-market and time deposits, treasury management, mobile banking and ATM services. Wealth-management fees and mortgage income are reported as revenue line items, not as separate reportable segments.[29][25][30][26] [26][27][28][29][25][30]
Company history
Nicolet Bankshares was incorporated in Green Bay as Green Bay Financial Corporation on April 5, 2000; its Nicolet National Bank opened later that year, on November 1. The company adopted the Nicolet Bankshares name in 2002 and reorganized as a bank holding company.[31][32] In 2013, Nicolet acquired Mid-Wisconsin Financial Services, adding 11 branches, and acquired selected assets and deposits of Bank of Wausau.[33][34] Its shares began trading on Nasdaq in 2016.[35]
From 2016 to 2022, Nicolet expanded through mergers and acquisitions, including Baylake, First Menasha, Choice Financial, Advantage Community Bank, Mackinac, County Bancorp, and Charter Bankshares.[36] In 2021, co-founder Mike Daniels became president and CEO, while co-founder Robert Atwell became executive chairman; Atwell transitioned from that role at the end of 2023.[37] Nicolet completed its merger with MidWestOne Financial Group in February 2026, extending its operations into additional markets.[38][39] [31][32][33][34][35][36][37][38][39]
