Updated

Overview

Neurocrine Biosciences is a neuroscience-focused biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops, and commercializes medicines for neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and related disorders. Its stated purpose is “to relieve suffering for people with great needs.” The company was incorporated in 1992 and is headquartered in San Diego, California.[1]

Its marketed portfolio includes INGREZZA for tardive dyskinesia and chorea associated with Huntington’s disease, CRENESSITY for classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia, and VYKAT XR for hyperphagia in people with Prader-Willi syndrome. Neurocrine’s commercial business is primarily U.S.-focused, with certain INGREZZA-related products marketed in Japan and select Asian markets through a partner.[4]

Neurocrine reported FY2025 revenue of $2.861 billion and approximately 2,000 full-time employees at year-end. Revenue for the six months ended June 30, 2026 was $1.774 billion.[8] [1]

Products & services

Neurocrine Biosciences’ marketed products include INGREZZA (valbenazine), a VMAT2 inhibitor approved for adults with tardive dyskinesia or chorea associated with Huntington’s disease. It is available as capsules and INGREZZA SPRINKLE capsules. CRENESSITY (crinecerfont) is an adjunct to glucocorticoid replacement therapy for controlling androgens in adults and children aged 4 years and older with classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia; it is available as capsules and oral solution.[5]

In 2026, the company added VYKAT XR (diazoxide choline extended-release tablets), indicated for hyperphagia in adults and children aged 4 years and older with Prader-Willi syndrome, through its acquisition of Soleno.[5][13] Its development pipeline includes investigational candidates such as NBI-1117570, a dual M1/M4 muscarinic agonist in Phase 2 for schizophrenia, and NBI-355, a Nav1.2/1.6 inhibitor in Phase 1 for epilepsy.[14]

For 2025, INGREZZA net product sales were $2.51 billion and CRENESSITY net product sales were $301.2 million.[15][16] The company’s disclosed capabilities include developing and commercializing medicines, with specialty distribution and reimbursement infrastructure; no separate third-party service offering is identified in the cited materials.[15] [5]

Geographic presence

Neurocrine Biosciences is headquartered in San Diego, California. At year-end 2025, its listed leased facilities comprised three San Diego sites—a 535,000-square-foot corporate, office and laboratory facility, a 229,000-square-foot office and laboratory facility, and a 45,000-square-foot office—plus a 5,300-square-foot office in Washington, D.C.[3][17]

Its disclosed commercial markets include the United States, Japan and select Asian markets for certain products. Valbenazine is marketed as DYSVAL in Japan and REMLEAS in other select Asian markets under a commercialization arrangement with Tanabe Pharma; the company does not name those other Asian countries.[7][17] The 2025 reporting does not provide geographic revenue shares or employee distribution by location. Neurocrine’s website describes a workforce of more than 2,000 people but gives no geographic breakdown.[18]

Neurocrine Group Limited’s acquisition by Immedica was completed on January 21, 2026, changing the company’s overseas footprint; the announcement does not give a site or employee breakdown for the acquired business.[19] [3]

Business segments

Neurocrine Biosciences reports one global business segment, rather than separate segments by therapeutic area or product. The segment researches, develops, commercializes, and sells pharmaceuticals, primarily in the United States, for neurological, psychiatric, endocrine, and immunological disorders. Product revenue categories are disclosures within that single segment, not separately reported segments.

For fiscal 2025, revenue was approximately $2,513.7 million from INGREZZA (87.9% of total revenue), $301.2 million from CRENESSITY (10.5%), and $45.6 million from other revenue (1.6%), out of $2,860.5 million total. INGREZZA is approved for tardive dyskinesia and chorea associated with Huntington’s disease; CRENESSITY is a treatment for congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Percentages are calculated from the reported revenue figures. [20]

Company history

Neurocrine Biosciences was founded in 1992 by Wylie Vale, Ph.D., and Lawrence Steinman, Ph.D.; the company’s 2023 annual report instead refers to 1993 as its founding year.[18][24] In 2000 and 2001, the company reported research milestones from collaborations with Wyeth-Ayerst and GlaxoSmithKline, including work on CRF receptor antagonists.[25][26] In 2010, it out-licensed global rights to elagolix to AbbVie.[27]

In 2017, the FDA approved INGREZZA (valbenazine) for tardive dyskinesia, and Neurocrine launched it in the United States—the company’s first commercial product.[28][29] AbbVie subsequently launched the partnered medicines ORILISSA for endometriosis in 2018 and ORIAHNN for uterine-fibroid-related heavy menstrual bleeding in 2020.[30] In 2020, Neurocrine also licensed several psychiatry compounds from Takeda.[31]

In 2023, INGREZZA gained approval for chorea associated with Huntington’s disease, and Neurocrine entered a gene-therapy collaboration with Voyager Therapeutics.[28] In 2024, the FDA approved CRENESSITY (crinecerfont) for classic congenital adrenal hyperplasia; that year, Kyle Gano succeeded Kevin Gorman as CEO.[33][34] In May 2026, Neurocrine completed its acquisition of Soleno Therapeutics, adding VYKAT XR, approved for hyperphagia in Prader-Willi syndrome.[6][35] [27]
