NetApp, Inc. is a San Jose, California-based data infrastructure company founded in 1992. It provides software, storage systems, and services that help organizations store, manage, protect, and use data across data centers and hybrid and public clouds. Its stated aim is to help customers use their data to improve operations and accelerate innovation.[1][2]
NetApp operates through Hybrid Cloud and Public Cloud segments. Its offerings include storage hardware and management software, cloud storage, and data services; ONTAP is a foundational software platform for its storage solutions. NetApp’s cloud services are available through Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.[3][4][5][6] In fiscal 2025, NetApp reported $6.57 billion in revenue and approximately 11,700 employees worldwide. Products & services
NetApp’s storage products are built around ONTAP, its data-management software for file, block and object storage across on-premises and cloud environments. The AFF A-Series provides performance-oriented all-flash storage, while the AFF C-Series emphasizes capacity and supports workloads such as backup and disaster recovery. The ASA A- and C-Series are all-flash systems optimized for block-storage workloads, including virtual machines and databases; FAS systems combine disk and flash for capacity-oriented uses.[6][10][11][12][13]
NetApp also offers E-Series hybrid-flash and EF-Series all-flash systems, which run SANtricity and target high-bandwidth workloads such as analytics and high-performance computing. StorageGRID provides S3-compatible object storage for uses including archives and media repositories. In the public cloud, its offerings include the managed services Azure NetApp Files, Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP and Google Cloud NetApp Volumes, as well as Cloud Volumes ONTAP software for customer-managed cloud storage. BlueXP provides a web-based interface for hybrid- and multicloud data management, including backup, classification and ransomware-related services.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]
Services include hardware and software support, professional services, customer education and training, and public-cloud services. Geographic presence
NetApp reports sales across three regions: the Americas (the United States, Canada and Latin America), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC). In fiscal 2025, the Americas generated $3.35 billion, or 51% of revenue; EMEA generated $2.20 billion, or 34%; and APAC generated $1.02 billion, or 15%. Sales to U.S. customers were $3.09 billion, approximately 47% of total revenue.[23][24][25]
NetApp’s headquarters is in San Jose, California. It owns facilities in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, and Bangalore, India, and has offices in approximately 26 countries. Business segments
NetApp reports two business segments: Hybrid Cloud and Public Cloud. Hybrid Cloud provides data-storage and management infrastructure for on-premises and cloud environments, combining software, hardware, support, and professional services. Public Cloud offers primarily as-a-service cloud storage, data services, and operational services on major public-cloud platforms.[32][33]
In fiscal 2026, Hybrid Cloud generated $6.24 billion in revenue, approximately 90% of NetApp’s total, while Public Cloud generated $688 million, approximately 10%. These are the company’s reported business segments, rather than a division between hardware and software revenue.[34][35] [32][33][34][35]
Company history
NetApp was incorporated in 1992. Its early business grew around networked storage appliances, and its Data ONTAP software became a foundation of its storage systems.[36][6] In May 2011, NetApp acquired LSI’s Engenio external-storage business, expanding its storage portfolio.[37]
George Kurian became chief executive officer in June 2015.[38] NetApp acquired SolidFire, a flash-storage company, in February 2016, and completed its acquisition of Instaclustr, a provider of managed open-source data services, in May 2022.[39][40][41] [36][6][37][38][39][40][41]
