Company history

Mizuho Financial Group emerged from the integration of three Japanese banks: Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank, Fuji Bank and the Industrial Bank of Japan. They agreed to integrate in 1999 and established Mizuho Holdings in 2000. In April 2002, their banking operations were reorganized into Mizuho Bank and Mizuho Corporate Bank. Mizuho Financial Group, Inc. was established as the group’s holding company in January 2003.[32]

The two banks merged in July 2013 under the Mizuho Bank name, bringing the group’s principal banking operations together.[33] In 2016, Mizuho consolidated its U.S. operations under Mizuho Americas and combined several asset-management businesses to form Asset Management One.[34][35] Its later expansion in investment banking included the acquisition of U.S. advisory firm Greenhill in 2023.[36] [32]
