Company history

MicroStrategy was founded in 1989 by Michael Saylor and Sanjeev “Sanju” Bansal, initially undertaking computer-simulation consulting.[28][29] In 1994, it planned to launch DSS Agent, a decision-support product for analyzing enterprise data; the company completed its initial public offering in June 1998 and released MicroStrategy 7 in 2000.[30]

MicroStrategy sold its majority-owned Alarm.com subsidiary in 2009 and agreed to sell its Angel.com subsidiary in 2013.[33][34] In August 2020, it announced a $250 million bitcoin purchase and made bitcoin the principal holding in its treasury reserve strategy.[35] In 2022, Phong Le became CEO while Saylor became Executive Chairman.[36] The company announced it would do business as Strategy in February 2025, and its legal name changed to Strategy Inc. in August 2025.[1][37] [28]
