Business segments

Beginning in the first quarter of 2026, Merit Medical Systems reports one operating segment, rather than separate cardiovascular and endoscopy segments. Within that segment, it identifies two product categories: foundational and therapeutic.[34][35]

Foundational products support access and enabling functions in vascular and other procedures. Their platforms include access devices, procedural solutions, OEM, and vascular intervention. Therapeutic products address a broad range of diseases, with platforms including cardiac therapies, oncology, renal therapies, vascular intervention, OEM, and endoscopy.[34][35]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, foundational products contributed approximately 67% of revenue ($536.440 million of $800.720 million), and therapeutic products approximately 33% ($264.280 million). These are product-category shares within the single reported segment, not separate segment contributions.[36]

In 2025, before the reporting change, the company reported cardiovascular and endoscopy segments. Cardiovascular contributed approximately 95.2% of 2025 revenue ($1,443.042 million), and endoscopy approximately 4.8% ($72.864 million).[37][38] [34]

Company history

Merit Medical Systems was founded in Murray, Utah, in 1987 by Fred Lampropoulos, and introduced its first syringe the following year. The company expanded internationally with a manufacturing facility in Galway, Ireland, and established Merit Sensor in 1994; it launched its RADstat compression device in 2000.[6]

Merit broadened its medical-device portfolio through acquisitions, including BioSphere Medical in 2010 and product and business acquisitions involving Argon Medical Devices, Catheter Connections, Brightwater Medical, Cianna Medical, and Vascular Insights from 2017 to 2019.[39] It continued expanding into new procedural areas with the HeRO Graft and Thomas Medical Products acquisitions in 2022, followed by dialysis-catheter, biopsy-sealant, and vascular-access products in 2023.[44]

Merit completed its acquisition of Cook Medical’s lead-management portfolio in 2024 and acquired Biolife in May 2025.[47][48] Founder Fred Lampropoulos was succeeded as President and CEO by Martha Aronson effective October 3, 2025.[49][50] In April 2026, Merit completed its acquisition of View Point Medical, adding its OneMark tumor-localization system and tissue markers.[51] [48]
