Overview
mBank S.A. is a commercial banking group focused on retail and business financial services. Its offerings include everyday banking, lending, savings, investments and insurance for individuals, alongside financing and financial-management services for businesses.[1][2]
Its core markets are Poland, Czechia and Slovakia. The bank traces its origins to 1986, introduced mBank as an online retail banking brand in 2000, and expanded into Czechia and Slovakia in 2007.[3]
mBank’s stated strategic purpose is to support customers through their lives and business development, with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation. Its presence across three Central European markets provides a high-level indicator of its geographic scale.[3] [1][2][3][1][2][3]
Products & services
mBank offers retail customers current, savings and foreign-currency accounts, payment cards, credit and savings products, investments, insurance and brokerage services [4]. For business customers, its offerings include company accounts, cards, lending, accounting, foreign-exchange services and payment gateways; corporate services also include cash and liquidity management, financing, hedging, financial-market services, leasing and factoring [5][2].
Digital services include CompanyNet online banking and the CompanyMobile app. These enable corporate customers to view balances and transaction histories, manage cards and foreign exchange, make transfers and authorize payments [6][7]. Available reporting describes aggregate bank income and lending and deposit balances, but does not provide a comprehensive breakdown of performance by named product [8][9]. [8][9][4][5][2][6][7]
Geographic presence
mBank Group’s operations are concentrated in Poland, with foreign activity in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Its foreign presence includes branches in both countries and the subsidiaries mFinanse CZ s.r.o. and mFinanse SK s.r.o., which intermediate sales of banking products distributed through mBank’s local branches.[10][11]
The geographic income disclosures indicate that Poland accounts for about 95% of the income subtotal and foreign markets about 5% in both 2026 H1 and 2025. These percentages are calculated from the seven disclosed income lines before impairment and other costs, rather than presented as a single reported revenue split.[12][13]
The available geographic disclosures identify foreign branches but do not provide branch counts, office locations beyond those countries, or country-level employee distribution.[10][12] [10][11][12][13]
Business segments
mBank reports four business segments. **Retail Banking** serves individual customers, including private-banking customers and micro-businesses, with lending, deposits, cards, insurance, brokerage, investment advice, asset management and leasing. In FY2025 it generated approximately 65% of Group net interest income, 54% of net fee and commission income, and 87% of segment gross profit; it represented 31% of Group assets at year-end.[14][15][16]
**Corporate and Investment Banking** serves companies, public-sector entities, financial institutions and banks. Its FY2025 shares were approximately 29% of net interest income, 50% of net fee and commission income and 49% of segment gross profit; it held 21% of Group assets at year-end.[17][15][16]
**Treasury and Other** covers treasury and money-market operations, liquidity and interest-rate risk management, the investment portfolio, internal fund-transfer-pricing settlements, hedge-accounting results and items not allocated to other segments. It contributed about 6% of FY2025 net interest income, had negative net fee and commission income equivalent to about 2% of the Group total, and contributed about 6% of segment gross profit; it represented 48% of year-end assets.[18][15][16]
**FX Mortgage Loans** comprises legacy foreign-currency-indexed mortgage loans to individual customers; these loans are no longer offered. Its FY2025 net interest and fee income were both negative, at approximately -0.3% and -1.3% of the respective Group totals, and its gross loss was about 42% of total segment gross profit; it represented less than 1% of year-end assets.[19][15][16] Percentages are approximate calculations from reported FY2025 segment totals; income figures cover the year ended 31 December 2025, and assets are as at that date.[15][16] [14][15][16][17][18][19]
Company history
MBank was established in 1986 as Bank Rozwoju Eksportu (BRE Bank), began operations in 1987, and initially focused on corporate banking, foreign trade and export finance. Its shares began trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 1992.[3][20]
In 1998, BRE Bank acquired and merged with Polski Bank Rozwoju, and in 1999 shareholders approved changing its name to BRE Bank S.A. The bank expanded into consumer banking with the launch of the online mBank brand in 2000 and MultiBank in 2001.[3][21]
BRE Bank expanded into the Czech and Slovak markets in the 2000s. In 2013, it adopted the corporate name mBank S.A. and consolidated its businesses under the mBank brand. After Cezary Stypułkowski’s tenure as president ended in 2024, Cezary Kocik took over as president on 11 October 2024.[3][22][23] [3][20][21][22][23][3][20][21][22][23]
