MAXLINEAR, INC

Updated

Overview

MaxLinear, Inc. is a fabless semiconductor company that designs communications systems-on-chip and integrated circuits for broadband access, wireless and wireline infrastructure, data centers, and industrial and multi-market applications. Its products include broadband connectivity and gateway chips, RF receivers, wireless-infrastructure solutions, high-speed optical interconnects, and interface and power-management products.[1]

Headquartered in Carlsbad, California, MaxLinear has an international presence, with offices including locations in the United States, India, China, and Germany; its products are shipped globally.[4][5] The company describes its mission as enabling individuals and businesses through engineering solutions for communications.[6] MaxLinear reported FY2025 net revenue of $467.6 million and $306.0 million for the six months ended June 30, 2026.[3][7] A company investor presentation reported more than 1,775 employees worldwide; that figure is historical, not a current headcount.[8] [1]

Products & services

MaxLinear’s products include broadband access and gateway semiconductors: cable DOCSIS SoCs and front ends, fiber/PON and DSL access devices, gateway processors, and MoCA, G.hn and satellite outdoor-unit SoCs. Its PRX321 supports GPON, XG-PON, XGS-PON and NG-PON2; the URX851 combines a quad-core broadband SoC with an integrated 10G PON MAC and four 2.5G Ethernet PHYs.[7] Its connectivity portfolio includes Wi-Fi and Ethernet products; Wi-Fi 7 devices include dual-band products supporting up to eight spatial streams and 17 Gbps, and tri-band products supporting up to 12 streams and 18.6 Gbps. G.hn products enable networking over power lines, coaxial cable and telephone wiring.[2]

For optical and wired infrastructure, MaxLinear offers high-speed interconnect devices and PAM4 DSPs for data-center, metro and long-haul optical modules; its portfolio spans 100G to 1.6T, including the MxL91782 1.6T DSP with eight 200G PAM4 lanes. Wireless-infrastructure products include RF transceivers and radio/modem solutions for carrier access, backhaul and base-station platforms, including its Sierra RF radio SoC. The company also sells analog, interface and power-management devices, including regulators, power modules, supervisors, eFuses, bridges, Ethernet and serial-transceiver products.[7]

MaxLinear also reports revenue from certain intellectual-property sale agreements; it provides customer support, sample requests and product documentation through its support portal.[20][21] In Q2 2026, revenue by end market was 50% infrastructure, 27% broadband, 14% connectivity and 9% industrial and multi-market; these are market categories, not percentages for individual product families.[22] [7]

Geographic presence

For FY2025, MaxLinear reported revenue by product-shipment geography as follows: Asia, $384.684 million (82%); Europe, $62.105 million (13%); United States, $18.966 million (4%); and rest of world, $1.886 million (less than 1%). Hong Kong represented 49% and Vietnam 12% of net revenue. The company cautions that products shipped to Asia may later be incorporated into systems sold elsewhere.[23]

MaxLinear’s headquarters are in Carlsbad, California; other listed facilities are in Irvine and San Jose, California; Bangalore, India; Singapore; Taipei and Hsinchu, Taiwan; Shenzhen and Shanghai, China; Seoul, South Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Paterna, Spain; Munich, Germany; and Petah Tikva, Israel. Manufacturing is substantially outsourced: products are made at foundries in Taiwan, Singapore, and China, while packaging and final testing take place in Taiwan, Singapore, China, South Korea, and Malaysia. The Carlsbad headquarters also includes manufacturing operations.[26] [23]

Business segments

MaxLinear reports one operating and reportable segment; it does not report its market categories as separate segments. The single segment develops and sells communications system-on-chip solutions for broadband, connectivity, wired and wireless infrastructure, industrial, and multi-market applications.[30][31]

As a breakdown of revenue by market category—not separate reportable segments—FY2025 contributions were broadband 44%, infrastructure 32%, connectivity 17%, and industrial and multi-market 8%.[32] These categories cover products such as broadband modem and gateway chips, Wi-Fi/Ethernet/MoCA connectivity products, wireless access and backhaul solutions, optical interconnects, and interface and power-management products.[3][2] In the first half of 2026, the reported mix was infrastructure 48%, broadband 29%, connectivity 14%, and industrial and multi-market 9%.[33] [30]

Company history

Founded in 2003 by eight engineers, including co-founders Kishore Seendripu and Curtis Ling, MaxLinear was incorporated in Delaware that September. The company went public in March 2010.[34]

A series of acquisitions broadened MaxLinear’s business beyond its original RF-receiver focus: the 2015 acquisition of Entropic added home-connectivity and video-delivery technologies; acquisitions and asset purchases in 2016–17 expanded its wireless, wired-access, infrastructure, analog and power offerings; and the 2020 purchase of Intel’s Home Gateway Platform Division added broadband and Wi-Fi technology.[36]

In 2022, MaxLinear agreed to acquire Silicon Motion, a maker of NAND flash controllers, but terminated the merger agreement in July 2023; the transaction did not close.[39] [34]
