Company history

Marriott Vacations Worldwide traces its origins to 1984, when Marriott Corporation entered timesharing by acquiring American Resorts Corporation and establishing Marriott Ownership Resorts. In 2010, it launched Marriott Vacation Club Destinations, a points-based program alongside its weeks-based offerings. The vacation-ownership business became an independent, publicly traded company on November 21, 2011, when it was spun off from Marriott International.[6][27]

A major expansion followed in 2018 with the acquisition of ILG, bringing Vistana, Hyatt Vacation Ownership, Interval International and other hospitality and vacation-ownership businesses into the company. In 2021, MVW acquired Welk Resorts; its former Welk resorts were rebranded as Hyatt Vacation Club in 2023. Stephen P. Weisz, who led the business before and after the 2011 spin-off, was succeeded as CEO by John E. Geller, Jr. on January 1, 2023. In February 2026, Michael A. Flaskey was appointed president and chief operating officer.[28] [28]
