Company history

Manpower was founded in Milwaukee in 1948 by attorneys Elmer Winter and Aaron Scheinfeld, who had set out to find a temporary typist. The company expanded across the United States in the early 1950s and opened its first international offices in Canada and the United Kingdom in 1956.[22][23]

In 1999, Jeffrey Joerres became president and CEO, and he became chairman in 2001. Manpower expanded its specialist services with the 2000 agreement to acquire UK-based Elan Group and its 2004 acquisition of Right Management, adding career-transition and organizational consulting capabilities.[24]

In 2011, Manpower Inc. adopted the ManpowerGroup name and presented its businesses as a family of workforce-solutions brands. Jonas Prising became CEO in 2014, succeeding Joerres, who took the role of executive chairman. In 2021, ManpowerGroup completed its acquisition of ettain group, which joined its Experis technology business.[27] [30]
