Updated

Overview

Macro Bank Inc. (Banco Macro S.A.) is a commercial bank focused primarily on retail banking in Argentina, including regional and underserved markets. Its services span personal and small-business accounts, cards, consumer lending and payments, alongside corporate and public-sector banking such as payroll, lending, transaction processing and foreign exchange. The company describes its strategic vision as changing the way banking is done in Argentina, with an emphasis on customer proximity and serving communities.[1]

The bank’s operations are centered in Argentina, with 444 branches and 2,016 ATMs at year-end 2025; it also consolidates a banking subsidiary based in the Bahamas. Its 2025 integrated report lists 8,246 colleagues. As a scale indicator, 2025 interest income was Ps. 5,005,505,482 thousand; this is an interest-income measure rather than a conventional non-bank revenue figure.[4] [1]

(Banco Macro S.A.) offers personal banking products including salary and peso- or dollar-denominated savings accounts, Visa, American Express and Mastercard credit cards, personal loans, and mortgage-loan options. Geographic presence

Argentina is Banco Macro’s principal operating geography. At year-end 2025, it reported 444 branches and 2,016 ATMs in Argentina, with about 90% of branches outside the City of Buenos Aires.[4] Its branch-location mix was reported as 72% in Argentina’s interior, 18% in Buenos Aires Province, and 10% in the City of Buenos Aires; these figures describe branch locations, not revenue.[21] The company also describes service points across 23 of Argentina’s 24 provinces, including locations where no other bank was present.[22]

The company’s headquarters offices are in the City of Buenos Aires, at Avenida Eduardo Madero 1172, Alem 1110, and Juana Manso 555.[23] Its listed subsidiaries also include Macro Agro SAU in Rosario, Santa Fe, and Macro Bank Limited in Nassau, Bahamas; the Bahamas location is a subsidiary presence rather than evidence of a comparable retail branch network.[5]

The company reports a single banking operating segment, but the available disclosures do not provide revenue by country or region.[24] Publicly surfaced employee figures are not broken down geographically.[22][25] [4]

Business segments

Macro Bank Inc. reports one operating segment: its banking business. Management evaluates this segment against consolidated profit or loss; the company does not disclose separate segment revenue or other figures from which to calculate a percentage contribution.[24] [24]

Company history

Macro’s origins date to 1977, when Macro Compañía Financiera was established; it began operating in 1985 after acquiring that company. In May 1988, it was authorized to operate as a commercial bank and incorporated as Banco Macro S.A.[1] It expanded across Argentina through a series of regional bank and branch acquisitions from 1996 to 2005, including Banco Misiones, Banco Salta, Banco Suquía and Banco Empresario de Tucumán.[26]

After further acquisitions and mergers in the 2000s, the company adopted the Banco Macro S.A. name in August 2006 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange that year.[1] In November 2023 it acquired Banco Itaú Argentina and related asset-management and securities businesses; the merger of Banco BMA (formerly Banco Itaú Argentina) into Macro was completed in November 2024.[27][28] Juan Martín Parma became CEO on April 1, 2025.[29] [1]
