Company history
Lotus Bakeries was founded in 1932 in Lembeke, Belgium, by Jan Boone Sr., who began by making caramelised biscuits. The Boone and Stevens families entered into partnership in 1974, and the company was listed on the Brussels stock exchange in 1988.[21][3][22]
The company expanded its portfolio and geographic reach over the following decades: it launched Biscoff in the United States in 1986, added Dutch bakery Koninklijke Peijnenburg in 2006, and acquired Swedish biscuit maker Annas in 2008, the year it also introduced Biscoff Spread.[23][24][3] In 2015 it expanded into natural snacks through nākd. and TREK, later adding BEAR; in 2019 it extended Biscoff into ice cream.[20][25][3]
Further portfolio expansion included the 2022 acquisition of British sourdough cracker maker Peter’s Yard. In 2023, Lotus Bakeries reported its first year with revenue above €1 billion.[26][27] [21][23][20][25][3][22][24][26][27]
