Products & services

Lithia Motors sells new and used vehicles, including certified pre-owned vehicles through its online Driveway.com channel, which offers home delivery or store pickup. Its finance and insurance offerings include arranging vehicle financing and selling extended warranties, insurance contracts, and vehicle- and theft-protection products.[8]

The company also provides vehicle repair and maintenance for brands sold at its stores and most other makes and models, including customer-pay and warranty work. Digital services include online vehicle search and purchase or sale, financing applications, payment estimates, and service scheduling; GreenCars.com provides information and shopping resources on electric vehicles and other alternative powertrains, including incentives and charging networks.[15]

For the six months ended June 30, 2026, revenue was $8,704.3 million from new vehicles (48.3% of total), $6,620.6 million from used vehicles (36.7%), $696.2 million from finance and insurance (3.9%), and $2,003.9 million from aftersales (11.1%), out of $18,025.0 million total revenue. Percentages are calculated from the reported category amounts.[19] [8]

Geographic presence

At December 31, 2025, Lithia Motors reported 455 locations across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada; the company’s FY2025 filing does not break that total down by country. Its principal executive office is in Medford, Oregon.[20]

FY2025 geographic disclosures report assets, rather than revenue, by country: $20.4 billion in the United States, $3.7 billion in the United Kingdom, and $1.0 billion in Canada—approximately 81%, 15%, and 4% of total assets, respectively. The filing does not provide revenue or employee distribution by geography.[23][24] [21]

Business segments

Lithia Motors reports two operating segments. **Vehicle Operations** covers retail automotive, RV and motorcycle franchises, including sales of new and used vehicles, parts, repair and maintenance services, and vehicle finance and insurance products. **Financing Operations** provides financing to customers purchasing or leasing vehicles from Vehicle Operations.[25]

Vehicle Operations accounted for approximately 94% of combined reportable-segment pretax income in FY2025 ($1,224.1 million of $1,298.7 million); Financing Operations contributed about 6% ($74.6 million). In the six months ended June 30, 2026, the respective shares were approximately 90% and 10% ($528.8 million and $57.8 million of $586.5 million, rounded). These percentages are based on segment income before tax, not revenue, and vary by period.[26][27]

Within Vehicle Operations, FY2025 revenue comprised approximately 50% new vehicles, 36% used vehicles, 4% finance and insurance, and 11% aftersales, based on the company’s reported category figures and rounded percentages. These are business lines within Vehicle Operations, not separate reportable segments.[28] [25]

Company history

Lithia Motors traces its origins to 1946, when Walt DeBoer founded a Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge dealership in Ashland, Oregon. After his death, his son Sid DeBoer took over the business and, with Dick Heimann, expanded it to five stores and 19 franchises.[29]

Lithia completed its initial public offering on December 18, 1996, and moved its stock listing to the New York Stock Exchange in 1999. Sid DeBoer’s tenure as CEO ended in 2011, and Bryan DeBoer became CEO in 2012.[30]

A major expansion beyond the company’s Western U.S. base came in 2014, when Lithia combined with DCH Auto Group USA, adding 27 stores. In 2021, Lithia expanded into the United Kingdom through Jardine Motors Group and acquired Michigan-based Suburban Collection. In 2024, it completed the acquisition of Pendragon’s UK motor and fleet businesses and established a strategic partnership with Pinewood Technologies.[33]
