Overview
Leonardo DRS, Inc. is a U.S.-based defense technology company that designs and manufactures advanced systems for national-security customers, including the U.S. military and allied forces. Its two core businesses are Advanced Sensing and Computing, which provides electro-optical and infrared sensing, radar, electronic-warfare and network-computing technologies, and Integrated Mission Systems, which supplies naval power and propulsion, force-protection and other mission systems.[1][2][3][4][5]
The company’s stated commitment is to deliver mission-critical products and systems for U.S. armed forces, security personnel and allies.[6] It serves customers in the United States and internationally, with locations across the U.S. and in other countries.[1][7] Leonardo DRS reported $3.648 billion in revenue for 2025; its company homepage lists approximately 7,300 employees, using 2025 figures.[8][9] [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][6][7][9]
Products & services
Leonardo DRS’s sensing and electronic-warfare products include electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) and signals-intelligence systems for ground vehicles, dismounted soldiers and space, as well as next-generation active electronically scanned array (AESA) tactical radars. Its Tenum 640 thermal camera cores provide 640 × 512 resolution and 60-frame-per-second long-wave infrared imaging.[10][11] The company also offers the software-defined Multi-Mission Hemispheric Radar and the manportable MSTAR V6 ground-surveillance radar.[12][13]
SAGEcore is an open-architecture software suite for tactical-edge computing that supports data processing, fusion and dissemination across applications including battle management, radar, command and control, tactical networks and communications.[14][15] Force-protection and short-range air-defence offerings combine AESA radar, electronic warfare, reconnaissance and surveillance, mission command, stabilized sensors, modular combat-vehicle turrets and kinetic countermeasures.[16]
Naval products include power conversion, control and distribution systems, propulsion, energy storage, electrical actuation and thermal management, including systems for Navy shipbuilding programs such as the Columbia Class ballistic-missile submarine.[17][18] Related services include engineering and installation, rapid-response and lifecycle support, sustainment engineering and planning, provisioning, and obsolescence management.[19][20][21]
The 2025 reporting divides revenue by business segment rather than individual product: Advanced Sensing and Computing (ASC) reported $2.355 billion and Integrated Mission Systems (IMS) $1.307 billion, against $3.648 billion total revenue. These equate to approximately 64.6% and 35.8% of total revenue, respectively; corporate items and eliminations mean the segment percentages do not sum to 100%.[22] [10][14][16][17][18][22][11][12][13][15][19][20][21]
Geographic presence
Leonardo DRS is headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. At year-end 2025, its operating footprint included facilities in 17 other U.S. states and Washington, D.C., two Canadian cities, and three Israeli cities. The company’s principal-facilities schedule lists Bedford, Nova Scotia, Netanya, Israel, and Beit She’an, Israel; it also reported owned properties in three U.S. states and one Canadian city, including building sites in Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Israel.[23][24]
Revenue is concentrated among U.S. government customers: they accounted for 80% of 2025 revenue, while international revenue—defined to include foreign military sales, foreign military financing, and direct commercial sales—was approximately 8%. The remaining revenue also includes commercial sales in the U.S., so the 80% customer figure is not equivalent to revenue earned geographically in the United States. For the six months ended June 30, 2026, the U.S. government represented approximately 82% of revenue as an end-user; the reported 18% for international and commercial opportunities combined is not an international-only share.[25][26][27] [23][24][25][26][27]
Business segments
Leonardo DRS reports two operating and reportable segments. **Advanced Sensing and Computing (ASC)** develops sensing and network-computing technologies, including electro-optical/infrared and intelligence systems, electronic warfare, radars, and rugged computing used for defense situational awareness, command-and-control, communications, and combat systems.[28][29][10][14] In FY2025, ASC generated $2,355 million, approximately 64.6% of consolidated revenue.[22]
**Integrated Mission Systems (IMS)** provides power conversion, control and distribution systems; ship propulsion and related systems; and force-protection and transportation/logistics systems, including naval and ground-vehicle defense applications.[30][17][31] FY2025 IMS revenue was $1,307 million, approximately 35.8% of consolidated revenue.[22] Consolidated revenue was $3,648 million; Corporate & Eliminations was $(14) million and is a reconciliation grouping rather than a reportable segment.[32][33][22] [28][29][10][14][22][30][17][31][22][32][33][22][22]
Company history
Leonardo DRS traces its origins to 1969, when David Gross and Leonard Newman founded Diagnostic/Retrieval Systems. The company initially developed naval sonar technology, including the AN/SQR-17 passive-sonar system, and later expanded into defense electronics and sensing technologies.[34]
In 2008, Finmeccanica, the predecessor of Leonardo S.p.A., acquired DRS Technologies.[35]
In 2022, DRS merged with RADA Electronic Industries, adding RADA’s tactical-radar business. The merger closed on November 28, and the combined company began trading publicly as DRS on Nasdaq and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange.[36][37] [36][37][34][35]
