LENOVO GROUP LTD

Updated

Overview

Lenovo Group Ltd is a global technology company that develops and sells personal computers, workstations, tablets, smartphones, servers and storage systems, alongside technology services and solutions. Its businesses are organized into the Intelligent Devices Group, Infrastructure Solutions Group, and Solutions and Services Group. Lenovo describes its vision as “Smarter Technology for All.” [1]

Founded in Beijing in 1984, Lenovo serves customers in 180 markets. It reported US$69.1 billion in revenue for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, and described its workforce as exceeding 69,500 people in a December 2024 company publication.[2] [5]

Products & services

Lenovo’s device portfolio includes ThinkPad and ThinkBook business laptops; Yoga and IdeaPad consumer laptops; Legion gaming PCs; ThinkCentre business desktops; ThinkStation workstations; and Lenovo tablets. Depending on the model, these products include convertible laptop designs, dedicated gaming graphics, and workstation configurations for engineering or creative workloads. Its Motorola smartphone lines include the foldable razr, edge and moto g families.[8]

For data centers, Lenovo sells ThinkSystem servers and storage and ThinkAgile integrated infrastructure. The ThinkSystem SR650 V3, for example, is a configurable two-socket, 2U rack server with storage, I/O and GPU options; ThinkSystem DE and DM arrays provide hybrid and all-flash storage options. ThinkAgile VX packages Lenovo hardware for VMware-based environments, while Neptune liquid-cooling technology supports dense computing workloads, including AI and high-performance computing.[15]

Services include device and data-center support, managed IT and digital-workplace services, and TruScale offerings that provide devices or infrastructure through service-based payment models. Lenovo does not disclose revenue shares for individual product families; it reported that products and services other than PCs accounted for 47% of revenue in the fiscal year ended March 2025.[20] [8]

Geographic presence

Lenovo Group is incorporated in Hong Kong, with headquarters in Beijing, China, and North Carolina, United States. It lists key operations centers in Beijing and Morrisville, North Carolina.[23][24]

In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, the Americas accounted for approximately 33.7% of revenue (US$23.3 billion), followed by Europe, the Middle East and Africa at 24.5% (US$16.9 billion), China at 23.0% (US$15.9 billion), and Asia Pacific excluding China at 18.7% (US$12.9 billion). These figures describe sales by geographic area, rather than the location of the company’s operations.[25]

Lenovo describes a manufacturing network of more than 30 sites across 11 markets. Its documented production locations include China, Mexico, Brazil, Hungary and India.[26] [23]

Business segments

Lenovo reports three business segments: **Intelligent Devices Group (IDG)**, **Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG)** and **Solutions and Services Group (SSG)**. IDG covers PCs, tablets, smartphones and other smart devices; ISG covers servers and infrastructure for enterprise and cloud customers; and SSG provides IT services and solutions, including digital workplace and hybrid-cloud offerings. Lenovo also uses PC and Smart Devices Group and Mobile Business Group as business-unit labels within its device operations, rather than as separate reported segments.[31]

For the year ended March 2026, reported segment revenue was approximately US$58.94 billion for IDG, US$19.19 billion for ISG and US$10.03 billion for SSG—about **67%, 22% and 11%**, respectively, of revenue summed across the three segments. These percentages use segment revenue before inter-segment eliminations, rather than consolidated revenue. Lenovo also discloses revenue by geography; that is a separate breakdown from its three business segments.[34][35] [31]

Company history

Lenovo traces its origins to 1984, when Liu Chuanzhi and ten colleagues founded the business in Beijing with an initial investment of US$25,000. It went public in Hong Kong in 1994 and adopted the Lenovo name in 2003 as it prepared to expand internationally.[2][36]

A turning point came in 2005, when Lenovo acquired IBM’s personal computing division, including the ThinkPad business. Yang Yuanqing became CEO in 2009. Lenovo became the world’s largest PC company in 2013, then expanded beyond PCs through its 2014 acquisitions of IBM’s x86 server business and Motorola’s smartphone business.[37] [2]
