Overview
Lemonade, Inc. is a technology-enabled insurer offering renters, homeowners, car, pet, and life insurance through a direct digital platform. It is vertically integrated, with wholly owned insurance carriers, and operates in the United States and Europe, including the UK.[1][2][3][4]
Lemonade describes its mission as transforming insurance “from a necessary evil into a social good.” [5] It reported $737.9 million in total revenue for 2025. At June 30, 2026, it reported approximately 3.31 million customers and $1.434 billion in in-force premium.[6][7] Lemonade, Inc. was organized in Delaware in 2015.[8] [1][2][3][6][7][7][8][4][5]
Products & services
Lemonade offers renters insurance covering personal property, personal liability, and loss of use, including temporary housing after a covered loss [9][10][11][12]. Its homeowners product covers the dwelling and belongings, with personal-liability and additional-living-expense coverage for eligible losses [13][14]. Lemonade Car includes a pay-per-mile option combining a base rate with a mileage-based charge measured using a telematics device; its filing describes a six-month policy term [15]. For eligible Tesla drivers, its autonomous-car offering discounts the per-mile rate for supervised Full Self-Driving miles using Tesla Fleet API data with customer permission and without a plug-in device; eligibility and availability are limited [16][17][18]. Geographic presence
As of December 31, 2025, Lemonade was licensed to sell renters, homeowners, pet, and/or car insurance in all 50 U.S. states, and reported active operations in 41 states and Washington, D.C.—jurisdictions representing about 95% of the U.S. population [19][20]. In Europe, it held a pan-European license covering 30 countries, while reporting active operations in Germany, the Netherlands, France, and the United Kingdom [21][22].
Customers in California, New York, and Texas together accounted for about 45% of 2025 gross written premium; the filing does not provide a breakdown among those states or allocate revenue by geography [23][24]. The company listed leased locations in New York City (headquarters), San Francisco, Amsterdam, and Tel Aviv; employee distribution by location was not disclosed in the material reviewed [25]. [19][20][21][22][23][24][25]
Business segments
Lemonade reports one operating and reportable segment: personal property and casualty insurance. It represents 100% of the company’s reported segment base; the filing describes insurance lines including homeowners multi-peril, inland marine, general liability, and private passenger auto.[26]
Renters, homeowners, car, pet, and life are customer-facing product categories, not separately reported segments. Lemonade does not disclose revenue or premium contributions by these product lines, so their individual percentage contributions cannot be reliably estimated from the reported segment information.[27][26] [26][27]
Company history
Lemonade was founded in June 2015 by Daniel Schreiber and Shai Wininger. It launched renters and homeowners insurance in New York in September 2016, then entered Germany in 2019 as its first European market. The company went public in July 2020.[28][29][30][31][32]
From 2020 onward, Lemonade broadened its product range with pet, life, and car insurance; Lemonade Car launched in Illinois in 2021. It agreed to acquire auto insurer Metromile in 2021 and completed the acquisition in July 2022. Lemonade entered the UK in October 2022. Effective January 1, 2024, Schreiber became CEO and Wininger became president; during 2024, the company expanded its UK and France offerings to include buildings insurance. In March 2025, Lemonade announced that its in-force premium had exceeded $1 billion and launched Car in Colorado.[33][34][35][28][29][36][37] [28][29][33][34][35][30][31][32][36][37]
